  1. I doubt you will as the lake is completely desperate from the hall

If anyone can charm a way in mate ... as doug would say " old golden balls " :D

there is a show being held there in may called the bushcraft show, well my son charley is really into that sort of stuff so I said I would take him

might get the chance to bump into someone and have a decent look round the lake

  3. Just had a look through the Cromwell website.. Looks phenomenal.

Definitely going to fish there this year!

Lining up a good year travelling round fishing.

    Thanks guys

I have fished Cromwell for last 2yrs brilliant 5* fishery

well kept, cracking fish with a few 40's and lots of 20's and 30's

ring the night before you go tho it gets very busy

  4. I have used drennan 12lb double strength with simple knotless knot on many occasions and can't say I can remember it ever letting me down, even with fish upto 34lb in extremely weedy water

I will say that if I use mono its the only mono I use for simple carp rigs

I have used the 8lb double strength on waters with the average stamp of fish 14-15lb and never had problems with that either

  5. Have you tried somewhere like anglers paradise

I stayed at rookley country park on the I O W few years back in chalet 6 the pond was just the other side of the patio door so was great to do stuff in the day and still do a bit of fishing in the evening, the specimen lake is 1min walk away but that had to be booked I did 3 nights on there but only managed to lose 1 stalking, the misses stayed in the chalet but spent the evenings drinking wine with me

Both lakes are small but well looked after and some stunners in specimen lake

I enjoyed the week and was able to combine fishing and time with misses

Swimming pool and other stuff for your son to do aswell

  6. I will say the few hours sleep helped because when we got to the lake via caen I was raring to go but when travelled through the night and then having to make a 5 hr trip take 10 hrs we was hardly raring to go and all I wanted to do was sleep

  7. We are getting overnight ferry to caen. Purely because its the shortest drive to the lake, which suits us being french fishing first timers!also thought we can sleep on ferry overnight and be fresh for saturday morning and have plenty of time to get their. Been told we cant get their before 1pm.

Will also be taking a sat nat to help us along and some euros for tolls etc.

don't forget breathalysers high viz jackets and red triangle and all your insurance documents.

btw best of luck sleeping on the ferry if you get the same cabin we had

  8. I can say I have been via Calais and via caen, the caen route much shorter to drive but more expensive with over night ferry and in the end its longer because of overnight ferry which takes about 9hrs but gets in about 7ish and its only 2hr ish from there.

much cheaper and quicker on the tunnel

  9. While I agree that on casting the bottom bead should in theory stop the rig sliding down towards the lead, it may actually slide down towards the lead anyway under pressure during the fight from a fish

Nick in my experience the hook length always slides towards the lead every time I've had a fish on,and always use tail rubbers next to lead to combat it
