I would stick with what they have seen a lot of as any new bait will take a while before it dominates a water.

Although I have not fished the lake but fished Mehdi's other one across the road 2 years ago in march I had a walk around it. Most of the fish were taken at range to small amounts of bait. Mehdi stocks Quest bait and a lot goes in during the season and I would suggest you try that bait initially. Contact Bridget at Anglinglines for Mehdi's email address and he will be able to give you more info.

Most lake owners stock a bait which is popular and that they can make money on. I fish a lot in france and have used premier in the past but now use Quest Rhaja spice or Irish Cream. If the lake has a freezer take the fresh baits if not take the lightly preserved ones.

I have found that a running lead with a large ring swivel (Korda) provides better indication and also not to use any form of fly back or back lead. Open water with little weed fishing try Drennan double strength and weedy areas Trilene Xl are both excellent hook links.

I went out there a few years ago and it's in a wonderful location. The fishing was not up to much then as most of the fish were small but that has changed. Was there a few years ago. Have a look at a couple of articles we did on the Angling Lines website. Things have changed a fair bit since then though.

Also have a look at the ESP clip. Discharges very well (use the pin provided to secure the swivel). As the clip does not have any grooves the lead will always come off if snagged.

Early April is the earliest I have been and it was a good trip but it depends on how the weather has been in France. Also November can be very good if the weather holds. Anything in between April and November will tend to be more reliable.

There are very few lakes just outside Calais. Valdore is about 11/2 hours but most are 21/2-3 hours from the port. Have a look at the "Sticky" at the top of the page for a few ideas or have alook at Anglinglines website. -
A few freinds fished it last year and had a great time........no kids but they did get a fair few 40's and 50's though

If it's a loop to your swivel or Korda clip just use a simple figure of eight knot............simple, neat and reliable.
