  1. Like the look of this! Would you consider using this as a bag rig as well as chod/helicopter style? Personally I've always found 2.5oz to be a good size but then again I haven't fished with size 4 hooks for long and haven't really fished many big fish venues yet. Only time will tell I guess.
  2. So in your opinion if I am using a size 4 krank is a 2.5oz lead really enough? I've opted for this lead size as I use 2.75tc rods and find it a nice weight for casting also gives me room to play with if I want to use a solid bag so that I'm not casting something overweight for the rod
  3. With a run ring rig setup wouldn't you lose the self hooking properties associated with a lead clip setup? Or does the end rig still serve its purpose in that respect?
  4. Can't go wrong with a combi line aligner! I definitely need to start using more bottom bait rigs again so I'm glad I tied up some blow back rigs recently.
  5. What hook size out of interest? On a separate note...I haven't used a running rig for years haha but I'll have to later this year as I'm planning on fishing a venue with catfish!!
  6. Genuinely guys appreciate you all commenting and giving advice. I will definitely persevere as they are clearly a popular pattern and a lot of you have strong faith in them. Hopefully I'll be able to report back in a few weeks with some decent catches! I'll persevere with the Ronnie rig and blowback rigs.
  7. I've already got a file so I'll just keep a closer eye on sharpness from now on I think. It's easy to think that every hook is perfect straight out of the packet
  8. Great thanks for the feedback, I must admit I used to add hemp to my old mix too and stopped that to make it cheaper. Seems like I've cut out all the good stuff and kept the filler! Think I'll start getting the vitalin again as it's not particularly expensive anyway!
  9. Haha you all had to throw a spanner in the works! One minute I'm thinking stop overthinking and just persevere and now I'm thinking korda hooks are no good! Haha
  10. Yeah I agree your right, I feel like I've tried to do so much learning and changing during lockdown ready to move onto bigger waters with bigger fish but then the sessions I've fit in since we've been allowed back on the bank just haven't gone well at all. I think based on the feedback I will persevere and move onto the new venues and see what happens
  11. Hi all, This year I decided to give molasses a go. I've used a mixed bird seed blend before but with vitalin and this seemed to be very effective at pulling the fish in especially noticeable when fishing shallow margin spots seeing fish swirling their tails etc but since going for bird seed alone with molasses I feel the results just haven't been coming. Is vitalin really that attractive and the bird seed so unattractive? I used quite a lot of molasses but since it's natural I was under the impression you couldn't really over do it? Thoughts? Thanks
  12. I think I'm overthinking a lot of my tackle at the minute as I've had a few blanks and a few hook pulls since changing things up. Like I say perhaps small fish causing the problems or even being ruled out due to the hook size
  13. Haha must be me! I'm pretty sure my fishing ability had gone out of the window since I started changing things up! I use size 4 krank on various rigs, blowback on coated braid with a stripped back section or Ronnie rigs with stiff boom or a short coated braid for in pva bags. I have also tried a stiff D rig but not caught on that yet. One thing I had thought is that it could be smaller carp that maybe don't get hooked well with a size 4. I fish a lot of venues that have a good number of single figure carp. I'm going to start at fisheries like Wyreside, Clearwater and Lakemore hopefully in the next couple of months so I don't think small carp will be an issue at those places.
  14. Anyone else experienced a lot of hook pulls when using this pattern? I've been using it a little while now and don't think I've landed a single fish I've hooked haha
  15. Thanks both, I'll keep that in mind and might tie up a new zig with some clear line.
  16. Thanks appreciate the advice on the bait choice, I'll definitely give it another go. Better to improve than give up! Is the hooklength and hook size etc all ok? From what I can find on Google I would say so. Something I've been wondering is that should a zig be set up as a running rig or is it self hooking like a lead clip? Using the Fox bolt bubble float I would think it should have some self hooking properties but then the lead is running. Cheers
  17. Hey all, I appreciate there may be threads about zigs already but today I used an adjustable zig rig for the first time and will quite freely say I have no confidence in them. It's been baking hot so since this venue doesn't allow surface fishing I opted for an adjustable zig fished 6" - 1ft below the surface so I could still see the yellow pop up. I witnessed countless carp spook off it sometimes shoals or 3 or even 4 together each turning away from it one after another. Over the day I've seen perhaps 15+ fish turn their nose up at the pop up. One sucked it in paused for a moment and then just comfortably ejected it. I'm using a hair rigged pop up with a size 8 Nash fang hook (which is very small for an about 1ft of 10lb Fox camo soft steel mono tied to a mini swivel in a Fox bolt bubble float then down to a 1.5oz lead. Any suggestions?
  18. Does anyone rate the Sonik Dominator X 6000 RS Big Pit reels? About £65/70 quid each? The other option I've seen is second hand diawa emblems which I'm sure will be good quality but just keeping an eye on a few ebay auctions to get a feel for their second hand price as might be too much still to be honest.
  19. Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I got lucky as I've just bought these second hand...£35 each perfect condition 👍 now just gotta sort some reels.
  20. Thanks for the advice, did these stay at £30 new? Seems very cheap or was it a one off offer?
  21. Thank you, really appreciate the advice. Any reel recommendations that aren't crazy money? For my standard reels I've used diawa regals for years and years with no problem and they were only about £50 from memory
  22. Hi all, Believe it or not I've never used a spod rod or involved this technique in my fishing at all. I'm wanting to get myself some kit now but looking for recommendations... Rod? Reel? Braid, what lb breaking strain? End tackle? I'm wanting to keep things fairly budget to get me started. Thanks in advance Paul
  23. Thanks for all the suggestions and recommendations everyone. I've had a look at a few and the fox sliks sound decent! What does everyone think of the fox dinky range are they adjustable?
  24. Thanks for the recommendation, I'm not fussy and perhaps I was using the wrong terminology! I'll check them out
