  1. Does anyone use floaters much in the Autumn, and any tips please? Rich.
  2. Guy's. I'm after a small one wheel trolly (much like the old Nash One the user to make) that will fold flat and small, and is really easy to set up/down. I only take basic stuff for the day, not night stuff. I carry a rod holdall, tackle bag, plus bait bucket only. Most I have are too heavy and have two wheels. Thanks all. Dicky.
  3. Robert. Why so heavy may I ask? In the UK and rivers 3lb would be more than enough. Alan Blair (of Nash fame) lands some huge fish on his 2lb t/c sawn offs, take a look at his videos on You-tube. He used them at Redmire mostly, along with his 9' 3lb scopes. Maybe your waters are extra large or extra weedy, or you use extra heavy leads? Just a thought before you part with that hard earned cash Robert. Dicky.
  4. Robert. What I'll say having two sets, and several individual Scope rods is the playing action sold them to me long term. I use (as many others do) the 9' 3lb for floater fishing, so soft are the tips you can use small hooks down the size 12s I've found. While I've not had many big fish on mine, on Youtube one guy land an 83lb carp on his. I love the packability of mine, and provided you take reasonable care setting them up, I cannot see any problems with telescopic rods. I've a set of Scope 1.75lb 10' that are my favourite small carp, tench, big perch, chub, reservoir roach bream rods. Hooks down to size 16s or small river barbel with a size 6s. I think in a time to come these rods will become a bit of a cult. I should also mention the looks too. I've a set on cork and one shrink tube. The black rings and reel fitting look really cool, if you could find a set that fit your budget (second hand) I doubt you will be dissatisfied? Good luck Dicky.
  5. Has anyone given these a good test and found they work any better than lead core or fluorocarbon, or even simple main line please? Thanks.
  6. Bit stunned you have not looked at Scopes. I have two sets and love mine, such nice tips on all the range of rods.
  7. I like the rucksacks that open flat ways, rather than from the top so you can see all your stuff laid out. But what one is best for size. I have the Aqua and Korum in my sights, I also like the ones that take the little pouches designed to fit them. But what ones are the best please guys? Do Nash or anyone else do something I should look at? Size wise day sack, but I like the chance to take extra cloths of flasks in winter. Thanks all. Dicky.
  8. Just wondered if these were worth buying as the Scope rods are all I use now. Currently I have a sling/type holdall, but the actual Nash skins look as if they offer better protection for my rods and reels. Thanks all.
  9. I've gone finally for a Drennn barbel hook in a size 14s. Looks good with a 10mm and apparently Martin Bowler has taken carp to 40lb on the size pattern. Thanks to all for their comments. Dicky.
  10. Guys I'm looking to match a Fang hook to 10 mm boilies. I've not used Fangs before and was unsure of the size. Would i need a size 10 hook or an 8 hook. Thanks all.
  11. I remember years ago a guy that really knew lines (he worked for Duplon that made many of them) told me that almost all lines were made in the same factory some place in the far East. He said many were plain white then dyed the colour required. I'd bet it's still the same and many of the expensive lines we buy are just that? I'll try the Suffix and see how I go. It's a real step for me to move away from Daiwa. I've only ever used two lines in 45 years of carp fishing. Original Maxima (fantastic amazing line) and Sensor. I'll feedback. Thanks all for the guide. I'll just say one guy mentioned the SPIN DOCTOR lead. This is an amazing piece if kit I would not be without. Dicky.
  12. Found this post interesting. I'm looking at Suffix Synergy and it's diamiter, in 12lb it's 23. In contrast my normal line Daiwa Sensor is 33. That's a huge difference even if it's not 100% accurate! I know a few of you use it, so just asking does it seem that fine for the breaking strain. I know my 4000 reels will hold a lot more line and cast better with it on. Does in sink well, I do like a sinking line for bottom fishing. Just brought a spool of 1000 yards for a tenner? Thanks All. Dicky.
  13. Hi buddy. Spoke to Guru themselves and they suggest we don't use it as reel line. They thought it would be to springy on the reel. So I'll keep it for hooklink. Dicky.
  14. Interesting Ian. I like the fact it's clear compared to Daiwa (my most favourite bottom fishing line) sensor. I'll give it a try on one of the reels and see. Thanks for the feedback. Dicky.
  15. I've got Daiwa Theory SP reels, 4000 size, simply amazing quality, they are my main carp reels. Expensive but i expect them to last a lifetime. For me Daiwa make great reels and rods, plus I prefer to back a UK company making fishing tackle. With Shimano the quality is good in the reels, but not so with the rods, but thats just my observations. I also hate the way Shimano discount tackle as soon as a new model comes out. You can pay £200 one week and next it's half price, stinky winky if you've just paid full wack. I also think the the old Shimano reels were much better, hence the old ones still about on E-Bay?
  16. I really like this line, but have only used it for hooklinks so far. But I'm thinking of having it on a reel for floater and float fishing. In 12lb is thinner than my normal brand. No reason to change, but I'm always looking for a little 1% edge if it's available. Anyone else use this line before? Thanks. Dicky.
  17. If your going to change the basis of the arguement ( re pulling hooks out ) you need to start a different thread. We are not talking about hook pulls, but rod pressure. And again sadly you incorrect. A heavier T/C rod will put more pressure on than a lighter rod. IT'S THE REASON A HOOK PULL CAN HAPPEN, MORE PRESSURE IS BEING EXERTED. If you cannot see that then your not following your own line of thinking. Factually these days the hooks are more likly to straighten than line breaking. I've really had enough of this sillyness. Lets agree to differ before we fall out? Some of our most famous people were dislectic, Albert Eistein for example, so your in good company. Dicky.
  18. Salok. But why do you have to prove it, is it's just down to ego. I've meet ego guys over the years and they always have to tell everyone just how good they are. It's the guys that keep stum I respect. They expalin there point and don't get all prissy about people saying their wrong, they will argue their corner and try tounderstand others view. The ego guys also spend an awful lot of time on forums? If your just trying to tell me you can put more pressure on a fish with a much lighter rod like a 1.5 over a 2.5 ; then I think your simply deluded, regardless of line b\s. But that's your choice, opinion, I have no problem with it, and wont try to change your mind. But it's the novice anglers I feel sorry for hearing that advice that go out undergunned on these weedy carp waters. I hooked a nice modest fish (mid twenty) last season off the top that got weeded right away. The 2.5lb 10' rod was only just enough, I know any less power and the fish could not have been moved. Regarding barbel rods as floater rods. For me the action is just not right. Most are designed to cast reasonably large weights 4/5 ounces in some cases, and not designed for casting 5 grams. The tool I'm after would have the same test curve, but would be quicker in the tip, lighter, and fast taper. It's hard to explan exactly what I mean by quick, not quick in long casting quick, more progressive quick, a very difficult rod to design I'd imagine. The Daiwa came yesterday and I called in the pit for a cast. It's ultra light, slim, and seems to have that tip action I'm after. I let you know!
  19. Each to their own! I have no point to prove. Dicky.
  20. I'd start at the beginning and count the fish numbers in the lake? How many are there? Say you only ever see 10 fish, then double that as an estimate. Twenty fish will not eat loads of bait and possibly they simply have too much food? Just a guess and trying to find some answers for you. If it is a case of too much food, then you may have to fish with something very tempting and visual, like a single bright bait IN THE RIGHT SPOT. Try stalking and watch the fishes reaction to your baits. Try a full days floater fishing walking round putting some baits on the wind and watch, then watch some more. If it's not that, try all natural baits like worms, maggots, and such. It's a start. Most people seem to suggest different baits. I'd start with finding the fish, counting and watching them feed. That will be your starting point. Carp fishing is a marathon not a sprint. Dicky.
  21. Salok.. Floater fishing is my thing. Is my mainstay fishing from the time they will come up for a floater. Many fish to over 30lb in the U.K.of the top I doubt any would have been landed on a 1.5lb rod. By May most of my waters are weedy, all are gin clear (understocked) so the weed grows really quick. I'd imagine in better stocked less weedy waters I too would use lighter. I agree lower t/c rods are lighter and nice to hold. I was looking for a rod that would allow relatively light hook links 10lb and pick up line at 60 yards or so, and be nice in close. I have a pair of Daiwa Infinity 2.25lb barbel rods, but the action is not right for distance. Great on the Trent casting big feeders but not 5 gram controllers. They are light at 7oz but so is the new Daiwa. It's was a case of finding something just right as I use the rod 5 days a week in summer, I could have made do with what I had, but! The only thing with the Freee Spirit was length, and after thinking long and hard the extra foot with the Daiwa outweighed it's disadvantages, but I'll have to see? But thanks for the imput. Dicky.
  22. Thanks for that. Nice to see someone is about. Best regards. Dicky.
  23. Finally took the leap and bought a Daiwa DF. Have always used Daiwa so I', sure when it comes I'll be delighted with it. Saw a good Youtube review and it looks nice and understated too.
  24. I'm looking to buy and out and out floater fishing rod. 10/11' foot no longer. The Free Spirit Hi s is ticking all the boxes 11' 2.75lb t/c. But I'd like a few alternatives in that price range, any thought's please. The F\S has a nice soft tip, ideal for lighter lines and small hooks, but backbone too. Anyone own one feedback please too. Thanks Guys.
  25. Yonny. Are they fairly limp, the leaders you suggest? I ask as if not I can easy make some out of some normal 30lb. I'm interested in how you rated the 50lb, did it do the job of concealment. well?
