    That's certainly an interesting way of thinking of the rig, definite food for thought - thank you. I was really referring to the crudeness of it, the thick hook link, I've always had the mindset to go thinner and less obvious, but as I said in the post, it catches and it makes me wonder if you need any finesse we only remember when we make a change and catch shortly after.

  3. I'm guilty of this at times. Never had a crack off though. But I use 15lb mainline and normally 5/6ft of leadfree leader. Now using 6ft of fluoro leader due to rules. I did check after every fish though and will do due to the lily pads. Not worth the risk of a crack off or snap up

  4. Personally think it's simply down to what type of braid your using . Some 30 lb braid is more than adequate to use straight through for large spomb distance work ,other 45lb braid isn't. If it's ultra thin dineama I would use a leader with it even if the leader is the same breaking strain.
