extreme
What ever happened to people using Dacron? this is cheaper than most braids out there and In My opinion is better than most what do you use and think?
mick1396
Used to use Dacron years ago,the stuff was called Black Spider, that was back in the 80`s.
extreme
well this is what im trying to incorporate into my fishing going back to basic the good old days i feel this will give me an advantage as the carp are very wary where i fish
mick1396
Why not try side hooking a boillie staight onto a hook with a mono hooklink? Or a paste bait molded around the hook?
extreme
never would have thought of that thanks Mick will try in next time im out:D
mick1396
Have a look thru K.Maddocks Carp Fever if you can get hold of a copy,I think they`re still easy to find, there`s loads of stuff in there that would be just what you`re looking for including rigs, bait, flavours etc.
extreme
is it more about 80's fishing styles? or more recent?

mick1396
is it more about 80's fishing styles? or more recent? Â It`s all about how he fished in the 70`s and 80`s with contributions from,Bob Reynolds,Bruce Ashby,Duncan Kay,Roy Jonson, and Peter Springate. mick1396
The first will be the most valuable in time, and as far as I`m aware there were no revisions, but I`m not certain of this.
salokcinnodrog
I have a 3rd edition I was very kindly given. Â Carp Fever, while about fishing in the 70's and 80's, much/most of it is still relevant today. Kevin Maddocks and the other contributors were responsible for some of the most important advances in Carp Fishing. Their Bait Development, Hair rig Invention and even Tackle Development are still in use today. Â Kevin Maddocks was streets ahead of some of the other names when it came to catching fish and his ideas that would put fish on the Bank. Â Rod Hutchinson's "The Carp Strikes Back" is another book that even today is a must read. His Bait knowledge and research are still in use today as well. Â Dacron is really the first step out from Mono Hooklinks that were in use, as there were few viable alternatives; although Richard Walker had used Braided Nylon as it was not so stiff as MonoFilament. Â If you think about it we are heading back full circle and the Pressure Cycle is trying to confuse the Carp as to what they are used to picking up. Â After Dacron do you go back or forward to Multistrand? lol:D :D
mick1396
I still use Mutistrand,so does that mean I`m a backward or forward thinking angler?!?!
salokcinnodrog
You must have gone forward onto it. and just stopped there. Â Besides, how many people got on with it effectively? easy to tangle unless you take care with Superstiff or thick tubing and Stringers. Not many people took the trouble to think about it's use. Â Less pressure on Multistrand users to be different as the lack of numbers using it mean its different anyway. :D Â Seriously why change something that works for you? mick1396
Agreed mate,it can be a bit prone to tangling if you`re not careful, but there`s ways round that as you`ve mentioned,I`m going to use it on one rod this season to try and get a comparison with other hooklink materials,so should be interesting. Guest Anonymous
Multi strand is by far and away the best stalking hooklength i have used, brilliant if you are just setting little traps in the margins as no worrys about tangling. I think i will start to use it again on my margin rods as well.
mick1396
I think multi strand is under rated and under used because of the potential problems that can occur with it,I started using it again last year, but didn`t use it enough to quantify me results,so this year I`m going to use it on 1 rod all the time and see how it compares, baits will be the same. coops_northants
I like Multistrad but i also Lose plenty of fish on it. But the run rate is pretty good going just need the luck with it. Â I would love to use it where i fish now but the snaggy nature of the lake means it would be suicide really. May go and get the 25lb stuff and see if it copes. Â Do they still do the woven and un woven versions? could try the woven, probably just a little more durable i would think. Â Dacron is superb, I would still use it if i could find it. Used to use it for tench fishing and also when i first started proper carping. Had dacron links with bait spikes on the hair.........
