pasta1
hi all Im going on my first french trip,it's a lake not been fished yet. just wanted to ask some advice on baiting for a lake like this.i.e particle's, boilie, pellet. what approach would you take, would you take all three bait's or boilie and pellet. any advice welcome. thank's
sharpy86
If it was me, I would be tempted to take all...Lets be honest, if they don't sell particles at the lake, you wont be able to use them if you don't take them yourself! Be prepared for every eventuality! If the lakes never been fished before, would the fish know what a boilie is? Or are these Farmed fish? i.e. Pellet fed? It could pay to fish only particles...maize on the hair over a bed of particles?? Or the fish may readily take boilies?? I wouldn't want to be caught out because I didn't have something with me!! binfield
if this lake has never been fished then this could be a tricky venue. Do the owners feed the fish, if so do they use pellets?. are the fish left to feed on natural foods? tigers, corn, tares could all work if this is the case. moorsey
Kev has hit it right on the head. MAIZE. It is unlikely that the fish have been fed on pellet. French fish farmers have used maize as fish feed for centuries and there are very few carp in France that have not seen and eaten maize. From my experiences out here in France I know that any lake which is truly "virgin" fishing (truly never been fished before) will be emptied by the first angler to use maize. You will need to find the nearest "Jardinat" or similar farm supplier so that you can buy 25 Kg sacks or maize and then soak them for at least 12 hours before boiling them and piling it into the swim. It may take a couple of days for the fish to respond but over the course of the week you will virtually catch every fish in the lake. The problem is that it will only work for the first couple of sessions and then it is blown and done.
pasta1
hi firstly thank's for all replie's. I know that the owner(english)has been feeding them pellet and boilie,he has had the lake a year now,and has not opened it to fish till april this year.there is original stock in the lake, some big lump's to,and also stocked it with over 120 fish from 22lb-50lb+. as far as I am aware they are farmed fish,as in your replie's,I am going to take all the mentioned bait, probably do a rod on each to find what the fish prefer. hopefully I will have a result on all of them. thank's again pasta1
