carphunter99 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Fished a new lake this week which is considered fairly hard and had two takes in my first few hours only prob both fell off. Used the trusty korda wide gapes in 6 for snowman and 8 for single baits, both rigs were fine when i brought them back hooks sharp not tangled. Have used the wide gapes for uk fish over 40 pounds and never had a prob. using 2 oz leads so might step up to 4's. Also thinking if pressured fish may have harder moths so might go back to fangs of fox series 5. Any ideas as gutted at lossing 2 good fish in a row. Quote
carpingod150 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 this happened to me the other day, using wide gapes aswell. I lost 4 fish near to the net! I hadn't just slackened the line or was putting too much pressure on it, just reasonable pressure and the hook just popped out! Quote
carphunter99 Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 same as me fish absolutley ripped off but kept steady pressure on it brought it back in about 80 or so yards to the net where it fell off good fish as well. did hear about some dodgy batches of them but thought that was a while ago you do get hook pulls but 2 in a row was a sod think i might give the seres 5 ago. tonybranno Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Perhaps the hook hold was non existant. Try using longer rigs and longer hairs, that might solve the problem. Quote
carpingod150 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 well i brought it in from about 50 yards, so i think the hookhold was ok Quote
tonybranno Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 well i brought it in from about 50 yards, so i think the hookhold was ok  If it popped out under the rod tip then it could have only been just in anyway. Quote
carpingod150 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 yeah I guess. But 4 fish off! I was using about 5" inch long mantis hooklinks with a line aligner Quote
tonybranno Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 yeah I guess. But 4 fish off! Â It happens Quote
patos1 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Used the trusty korda wide gapes  Never got on with these and I lost a few fish before packing them off to the bin. Using Drennan Super Specialist Barbel hooks now and have pulled out of only 1 fish since about May so find them much better.   There you go, the kiss of death Quote
nickjohnson Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 like your man said try longer hooklinks or hook types etc, the main idea of fishing two rods is to try different rigs or baits or areas on each until you find a winning combo then you can fish both set ups on both rods. your getting the runs so i think youve found the fish and a bait that they like, that really is the biggest hurdle overcome, rigs is the easy one, just keep trying. carphunter99 Posted August 19, 2007 Author Report Posted August 19, 2007 going in a bit for a couple of nights armed with loads mor e bait to put in alredy got some alternatives tied up see how we get on today. Makes me wonder the last lake i fished was so snaggy as soon as you had a run you had to just bully th fish into the net if it come off that was bad luck. the fish i lost i let them run might lift into the fish a little harder this time and give em less and see what happens. carphunter99 Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 swithched over to the carp r us nailers in sixe 8 fished with a decent hair comming off a small ring by the bend in the hook. Only prob had no carp but nailed 10 bream to 10 ponunds and a 8 pound tench smack bang in the bottom lip. Given me some confidence, off to a new water now to try my luck hard life isnt it. Quote
