My advice would be to get some good dvds and books on general coarse fishing. Learn the basics to catch gudgeon, roach and perch to start with, although it seems more fun to catch carp straight away, starting the long way is sometimes the better way.

 

The most important thing is what Tony mentions above, go with a relative or friend who can help show you, or join the junior section of a local club.

Perhaps even more important............Be Careful but have fun.
