  1. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but with florocarbon working on the same refractive index as/or similar to water, floro`s would only work as a sinking line under water and not as a surface line where the fish would be `looking up` and see the same shadow cast as a normal line. As i said i could be wrong, just got me thinking a bit and apologies for going off track a little bit
  2. have been a couple of times and managed to catch each time. As sally mentioned earlier the water is not as easy as many think, with the fish being under constant pressure they tend to wise up quickly. Its a shame that maggots are now banned as two of my fish came to those off peg 3( the other to a tutti off peg 11). The best advice I can offer is dont over complicate things and try small pva bags or stringers. the margins betwwen 2 and 3 are worth a shot but dont seem to be that good anywhere elese on the pool which is a bit strange as it is pretty quite at night . The peg by peg guide on the website is worth watching but remember its only a guide. The very best of luck and let us know how you do................Dave
  3. Speci lake used to be ok, had them up to 18lb, fished mainly on the top with dogs or cut down pop up, feed a lot. If you fish the bottom, the bottoms fairly flat at around 6-7ft with a 4ft wide trench going down to 8-9ft all the way around the pool about 10-12 ft out, good for tench there. There are a couple of islands with the depth being around 6ft right up to the bank, method always works well. Now for the reason i said used to be ok; couple of years ago they ripped all the reeds etc out of the inside margin and totally flatened the banks removing all trees and bushes overhanging the water. Then last year they cut a channel through to an adjacent match pool to create a bigger lake and stocked it full of F1s. Basically they earn more money from it as a match lake as Heronbrook is one of the largest match complexs around here. all the other lakes( around 7 I think are match waters with carp up to 4-5lb only). Its not called the Speciman lake any more, I'm not sure what the name is now but if you fish it think of all the F1s you'll have to get through to stand a chance of a decent fish Have a look; http://www.heronbrookfisheries.co.uk/ There are still some decent fish in there as seen in the photo gallery, but remember these pics are old, the handsome devil in the hat on page 2 is me and thats about 4 years old. If your local to the area try Weston Under Lizard AA http://www.wulac.co.uk/ Hope all this helps Dave
  4. My advice would be to get some good dvds and books on general coarse fishing. Learn the basics to catch gudgeon, roach and perch to start with, although it seems more fun to catch carp straight away, starting the long way is sometimes the better way. The most important thing is what Tony mentions above, go with a relative or friend who can help show you, or join the junior section of a local club. Perhaps even more important............Be Careful but have fun. Oh and by the way...welcome to the forum
  5. Their other water in the Cotswalds, Wildmoor, is ok. Went there in June for 2 nights and no fry or bird problem. I dont like recomending places as what one person likes another may not, but given the choice i would go there tomorrow
  6. To be honest did'nt experience much of a bird proplem. Only saw 2 Swans and a couple of Coots all the time we were there.
  7. just got back from fishing Evesham Vale and those who are interested in going there I would think twice. Its a great looking secure place but its experienced a MASSIVE fry explosion, there being littery a 2 or 3 dozen(believe me this is no exaggeration) of 3 to 6 inch carp in every swim. Tried fishing with larger baits but even though the tiddlers couldnt quite get the bait in their mouths they could shift it about enough to make the bobbins continually dance. While I was packing away I set the nipper up with a float and a haired 10mm boilie to keep her out of mischief and I recon in the hour or so it took to pack she had about 40 odd mince pies(sorry too small for pasties ). The baliff did say they were going to net the water(great bloke by the way) so it may improve but check first, especially if travelling a good distance.
  8. thanks to both of you for reply's. Intending to go 30th + 31st of this month, weather permiting, will let you know how we got on
  9. Just wondered if anyone has fished this water recently. Need somewhere to take the nipper as shes bugging me to go night fishing so need a bit of a runs water to build her confidence and stop the boredom setting in. My local waters soul destroying so probably not the best place unless you want a good nights sleep
