TaylorR Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 Each and every time I do some float fishing on my local stretch of canal I have seen a Carp boshing out of the water. It looks of a decent size and am very tempted to try my luck. What would you recommend? Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted April 12, 2019 Report Posted April 12, 2019 Welcome to Carp.com. I'd carry on with the float rod, but also fish with a heavier ledger set up on another rod where you see it. If it is jumping in the same area there is something it likes. Baitwise, to start keep it simple, sweetcorn maybe, luncheon meat, peperami, with a few freebies around it. Donnygooner 1 Quote

I'm fishing on the opposite side of the canal and there is a private mooring right next to me. I'm thinking that the carp gather there because of spare food thrown in by people living on the barges 🤔 so tucking a ledger down the side should be fine and shouldn't get too much disturbance from passing barges. But whats wrong with setting up a 10ft carp rod? Edited April 12, 2019 by TaylorR Quote

Nothing wrong with the 10ft carp rod, just didn't want you buying an expensive carp rod if you already had a ledger rod suitable for the purpose😉 Quote

I have recently got all the basics including two 12 foot rods. Which means my smaller 10ft ones are spare and would work better on the canal. Quote
The Roach Basher Posted April 13, 2019 Report Posted April 13, 2019 Floating bread/dog biscuits are always worth a go on moving water imo, and liquidized bread/sloppy mix going in (same as boat waste) ....I live very close to GUC Northampton, seen loads of carp first light cycling to/from work.
