Spawnbound

It looks like we’ve got a spawnbound fish on our water. It’s came out twice in the last 3 wks so it’s still munching. I was just wondering if there’s anything we could do to help it if it’s recaptured or do we just leave it and hopefully it will re absorb the spawn. What reasons would it be spawnbound ?

Is it in the lap of the gods that we will lose the fish ?

Looks pretty bloated to say the least, probably more chance of it going belly up than recovering imo.

You say it's come out a couple if times which isn't good either.

I had one like this a couple of years back and it went belly up some time later that year.

I think that if it was retained and a koi expert telephoned, maybe they could inject a hormone and strip the eggs out, never heard of this happening but can't see why not if it's a prized asset to the venue - maybe not possible.

Fingers crossed mate

Great shame mate, looks similar to what happened with the Winghams fish. Sometimes, if a fish hasn’t spawned properly for various reasons, the eggs would normally be absorbed into the fish’s system. If the eggs aren’t absorbed, they can become compacted, and harder to expell, and then sometimes new eggs become ready for spawning, so a blockage occurs. Eventually the eggs die off, and infection sets in, which in turn eventually kills the fish.

It could also be Dropsy, fish become heavily bloated with Dropsy, and so could look spawn bound. Dropsy is a build up of fluid, and is not really a disease, it’s more a symptom of something else being wrong. I beleive a vet etc, could deal with a spawn bound fish but, it would be difficult to arrange I would imagine? Fingers crossed for the fish though.
