Thick line & small hooks

Today i set about tying some chod style rigs but wanted to try a smaller hook.

 

I only had ESP stiff in 15lb and knew i'd struggle getting it through the eye three times on a size 8 korda mixer.

 

The return on the knotless knot was difficult enough so making the 'D' ring was next to impossible so i came up with this idea..

 

 

I've seen terry hearn do a version of the snell knot when tying chods but with my clumsy fingers that'll get messy

 

So what do you think?

Looks like the original D-rig going back up the hooklink line. The shrink tubing tidies it up very well.

 

I used to do the same sort of thing, only using cotton or whipping thread to hold the tag end in place and the tag end of the whipping went under the "body" and was then cut very close. A drop of melted candle was used and held it in place quite nicely, although that way was very fiddly to do.

A whipping knot could be the answer. Although, your photo does look very tidy.

do you have a pic if the finished rig? ie tied on to the chod swivel and the hooklink curved.

 

does the tubing still let the curve from the stiff filament carry on to the hook or does it straighten our where the tubing is?
