  1. Bonjour thought I'd jump in seeing as a miracle has happened and I'm back side. Had two little commons and about 600 bream. That's park lakes for you I guess. God I'd be a rich man if I invented bream repellant apart from larger bait any tips for avoiding the slimeys? Only other thing to report is I'm a bit gutted father in law has had nothing and I made a point of putting him onto fish I saw showing before he arrived. He's 60 today so wanted him to bank some stuff :-/ Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  2. Quite beautifully put. Couldn't agree more. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  3. I just thought of something I do like about baitrunners, the visual indication that line can be taken. I consider myself a careful angler but I can just see me forgetting to loosen the front drag on a big pit at least once. At least with a baitrunner when my brain is not fully engaged I'd be likely to notice before its too late. What I've never understood is baitrunners where the lever is 'up' for off? That seems counter intuitive to me. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  4. Hmmm. See I have baitrunners and I used to really struggle to understand the logic of bigpits where you're having to 'tighten up' manually. Now I would happily make the switch if I had the spare pennys. With my current baitrunners don't forget the drag is adjustable still, so I have mine set pretty firm most of the time. Then my regular drag is set so when the switch happens if the fish goes for it I don't have my arm pulled off it can take line. But I guess I sort of agree with you but just because of habit I think when I do switch it'll feel wierd for a while. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  5. I like this idea. If and when I eventually get near a bank or my gear again I'll be sure to return Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  6. I think angling direct might have a 10% off offer at the moment so you might be able to get a few more ££££ off. Double check Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  7. I shall politely disagree on this one cm I recommend having a look at the Fox Microns, either mx or mx+. I had two original Fox micron mx2's that lasted me well over ten years. They still work now but I just wanted to be a tart and upgrade to some delks. If you get a micron mx+ and a highly versatile avid carp bobbin should cost you about £41 at the moment (angling direct are doing the mx+ for 32.99). Avid bobbin 7.99. That's my two pence Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  8. I should have said I actually own the enterprise fake biscuits. Good in principle but I still think because there's no food signature there they get left. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  9. Yeah please do, would appreciate seeing what it's meant to look like. Ta very much. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  10. I like the sound of this... What colour tights? [emoji16] Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  11. Can I slightly hijack this thread? But to expand the convo about surface fishing Bait and end setup, what's your go to? I have done a few short sessions on runs/stocky ponds with my son to give him the bug. It amazes me that even the small fish are so coy to my bait sometimes. Even feeding competitively so often I watch them sussing something is up. It also makes me very dubious about 'fake' baits. If I use a pretty convincing fake dog biscuit amongst free offerings I can sit back and watch the whole lot get cleared out sometimes without the fake one getting touched. They know! So then it's on to a tiny dab of superglue on a real biscuit, I quite often think they are sensing or touching the line coming away from the bait, or perhaps it's just not moving naturally when they mouth or move in on the bait. I love bread but it doesn't stay on long, so sometimes I like pita bread but again once it's soggy no good. Anyone got a recipe for softening biscuits for hooking. Bit of vaseline on the fluoro to make it float? I'm got some things to figure out as you can tell Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
  12. What about fishing a solid bag, Perhaps adding some pva nuggets to drop the whole lot down gently on the bottom? Someone told me about that technique once but I can't say I've ever had need to use it since. Don't know if it's the kind of setup you'd need to test in margins or tank to see how slow it would sink? 13. I honestly can't recall the cycle without going and relearning it Tim. But it was quite interesting, and at the time it seemed pretty crucial to figuring out why the levels were up or down
  14. Tim, or anyone, I got researching when I bought a fish tank. Do you get ermmm.. Nitrate? Cycles in a pond like you do in a tank? So I mean, once the bacteria establish themselves is it possible for the pond to maintain its own balance without much interference needed? This was a while ago when I was reading and I don't pretend to recall it all.

That's great! My kids would love something like this I think...and so would I to be honest! You ever kept chickens?

Cool! Nice looking ducks Tim, what breeds?
  17. Passion for angling! Thanks for the reminder, haven't watched this for a few years and now in the process of downloading it to my pvr for a nice news year day in front of the box rewatching them I don't think I've ever seen catching the impossible so I'll be grabbing that too. Cheers gents good thread.
  18. Another interesting thought dal, nice one. Eventually yes I could fish them side by side, but not this weekend as where I'm going it's 1 rod only unfortunately.
  19. Cm, had a look at a write up by Lee Burden about a rig named the 'unfair rig'. At the moment I can't figure in my head how it behaves differently compared with having the weight after the pivot point below the hook. I think I'd certainly like to tie it and see how it behaves in some water later. That's a very kind offer! Thank you! I'm going to make a point of looking out for someone in need of something that I have and no longer using, so I can pass on the favour to someone. It's happened a few times on the board lately and it always warms my heart! Nick, I didn't read it as sarcastic at all. You are always extremely helpful when ever I have a question and I thank you for that. I think I want to try and make an artificial carp mouth complete with suck and blow function (oOH Matron) to test rigs out with!
  20. Nick, Great questions which I hadn't considered yet. Pfff well??? I suppose how they're feeding is going to be dependant on what type and quantity of offerings are down with the hookbait, how shy or aggressive they're feeding (that Vs. bait height). At the moment I only plan to pop baits up high enough to know the hook is clear of debris particularly along a tree-lined margin situation - twigs, leaves etc. If I'm scattering just boilies as freebies then (at a guess) I'd be expecting them to be cruising around picking them off (sucking).....I don't know now. My logical thoughts are gone for the day it's bed time!
  21. I've finally found a fluorocarbon material that for me is supple enough to tie, bed down and doesn't want to curl up so much off the bottom (It's actually Fox Zig+). So, I've long been attracted to the idea of this near on invisible hooklink material so want to give it a proper shot on some simple rigs. Atm experimenting with a d-rig pop-up rig; so far what I love is it is so quick and simple to tie. Seems about as unclunky and uncluttered as it's possible to get and I also like the amount of free movement that the boilie on a rig ring offers. My slight anxiety is, at least with this size hook (6), the hook feels at an unnatural angle. So I tied version 2 as an alternative. My question is really, is anyone fishing either of these two arrangements, and what do you think, and am I just over thinking the hook angle on version 1, and it'll work just fine? Version 1 Version 2 Any other tips very welcome! Dan.

That's cute! You've got a right old Farm going there Nm.
  23. I didn't realise they still sold drennan continentals! Old favourite of mine, I'm going to pick a box up when I next see them.
  24. Oh and +1 for the multi rig too. Love it.
  25. I'm loving the kd rig at the moment. It's simple and seems to be doing a fine job of getting hook holds for me. Been using straight through on short piece of supple braid inside a solid bag, or at the end of a combi rig, or coated braid with the end few inches stripped away. Looks a bit mad, but so easy to tie and minimal components.
