Funny you should say that, Father in law finally had a take but lost it. But it was very close in so now I've brought a rod in close too. Not fishing a bag on it and just feeding boilies and chops loose. Now I sit and hope that the carp get to it first Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

No nuts over here unfortunately cm. I'm not actually fishing loose feed as such but I am fishing solid bags which have got a bit of pellet in... Hmm Ok that's probably why! The double boilie seems to be doing the trick atm. Although no more carp yet. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

Bonjour thought I'd jump in seeing as a miracle has happened and I'm back side. Had two little commons and about 600 bream. That's park lakes for you I guess. God I'd be a rich man if I invented bream repellant apart from larger bait any tips for avoiding the slimeys? Only other thing to report is I'm a bit gutted father in law has had nothing and I made a point of putting him onto fish I saw showing before he arrived. I just thought of something I do like about baitrunners, the visual indication that line can be taken. I consider myself a careful angler but I can just see me forgetting to loosen the front drag on a big pit at least once. At least with a baitrunner when my brain is not fully engaged I'd be likely to notice before its too late. What I've never understood is baitrunners where the lever is 'up' for off? Hmmm. See I have baitrunners and I used to really struggle to understand the logic of bigpits where you're having to 'tighten up' manually. Now I would happily make the switch if I had the spare pennys. With my current baitrunners don't forget the drag is adjustable still, so I have mine set pretty firm most of the time. Then my regular drag is set so when the switch happens if the fish goes for it I don't have my arm pulled off it can take line. But I guess I sort of agree with you but just because of habit I think when I do switch it'll feel wierd for a while. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

I shall politely disagree on this one cm I recommend having a look at the Fox Microns, either mx or mx+. I had two original Fox micron mx2's that lasted me well over ten years. They still work now but I just wanted to be a tart and upgrade to some delks. If you get a micron mx+ and a highly versatile avid carp bobbin should cost you about £41 at the moment (angling direct are doing the mx+ for 32.99). Avid bobbin 7.99. Can I slightly hijack this thread? But to expand the convo about surface fishing Bait and end setup, what's your go to? I have done a few short sessions on runs/stocky ponds with my son to give him the bug. It amazes me that even the small fish are so coy to my bait sometimes. Even feeding competitively so often I watch them sussing something is up. It also makes me very dubious about 'fake' baits. If I use a pretty convincing fake dog biscuit amongst free offerings I can sit back and watch the whole lot get cleared out sometimes without the fake one getting touched. They know! So then it's on to a tiny dab of superglue on a real biscuit, I quite often think they are sensing or touching the line coming away from the bait, or perhaps it's just not moving naturally when they mouth or move in on the bait. I love bread but it doesn't stay on long, so sometimes I like pita bread but again once it's soggy no good. Anyone got a recipe for softening biscuits for hooking. Bit of vaseline on the fluoro to make it float? I'm got some things to figure out as you can tell Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

What about fishing a solid bag, Perhaps adding some pva nuggets to drop the whole lot down gently on the bottom? Someone told me about that technique once but I can't say I've ever had need to use it since. Don't know if it's the kind of setup you'd need to test in margins or tank to see how slow it would sink? I honestly can't recall the cycle without going and relearning it Tim. But it was quite interesting, and at the time it seemed pretty crucial to figuring out why the levels were up or down

Tim, or anyone, I got researching when I bought a fish tank. Do you get ermmm.. Nitrate? Cycles in a pond like you do in a tank? So I mean, once the bacteria establish themselves is it possible for the pond to maintain its own balance without much interference needed? This was a while ago when I was reading and I don't pretend to recall it all.
