  1. Morning all, I'm looking at getting 2 new rods, i'm currently looking at getting a pair of Shimano Tribal Velocity's At a Sale price of £50 each. Love the look and feel of theses rods but wondered if you guys can recommend anything in a similar price range that's any better? I will be matching these up with a pair of Shimano Ultegra XSD's or Shimano 6000 DL RB's Thanks for any responses in advance Andy
  2. Morning all, I'm going to go with getting a dedicated Marker rod, i'm not disregarding what others have said but would like one for some of salokcinnodrog's above reasons. So, Would you get a Spod rod as a Marker rod or would you go with an actual Marker rod or a 3lb fishing rod marked up with 6 inch and 1ft marks? Thanks Andy
  3. I already have the spod rod and reel so was wondering if i should buy a marker rod or another spod rod (etc) seems i'd be better buying another spod rod for markering then?
  4. Hi all, I have purchased a 5lb tc Spod rod so that's sorted now but i want to get a Marker rod too. Would i be best buying another Spod rod as a Marker rod and marking 6inchs and 1ft marks on it or would i be best buying either a 3lb or a 3.25lb Carp rod and adding the mark or, a designated Marker rod? The reason i'm asking is that a few people have said that Marker rods are generally a bit too soft and the heavier Spod rods give better feedback on the tip. I will probably be using Braid on both rods or 15lb mono on the Spod rod and 30lb braid on the Marker rod. Your thoughts please guys Andy
  5. Only asked as i have just (a month ago) loaded my 3 reels up with Shimano Technium.
  6. Hi Smufter, what did you think to the Technium?
  7. I am a sea fisherman as well as course and what we generally use for open beach fishing is either 15lb or 18lb mainline with a shock leader that equates to 10lb for each ounce of lead used so a 5oz lead you would have a 50lb shock leader 6oz lead and 60lb shock leader although i generally just use 60lb to be on the safe side. We don't use 8oz on the beach as you wouldn't be able to cast it efficiently to get the distance. The leader is approximately 2 x the length of the rod being used this means with the drop from the tip to the lead there is about 2 to 4 turns on the reel. Andy
  8. Thanks for the replies guys, I can't use my carp rods as a marker rod as i only use a 2.2lb tc rod for my carp fishing as i only fish smaller (upto 6acres) waters which arent that snaggy. I use Korum Twin Tip + rods, 2.2lb for carp and the 1.75lb for bream and tench. I'll get the Spod first as advised. Thanks Andy
  9. Hi all, I have around £60 to spend on a rod. Can ask would you buy a spod or marker rod first, i know which i am going to buy (JRC Contact) so not so much which to get although i am open to other Ideas if there's any other brands i've missed in my price bracket? Also why you would buy which first? Thanks in advance. Andy
  10. So, best laid plans (etc), i went for Shimano Airo line in 15lb in the end after speaking to the tackle shop sales guy. He said that the shimano is a tough line that sinks well and has a dia of 0.35mm so the same as most 15lb and has little memory. I soak my spools in water for min of 24 hours before spooling and don't think i've ever had a problem with line twist, although i don't go any where as near as often as you guys. Andy
  11. Thanks for al the replies guys, think im going to go for the Daiwa sensor. I know it's probably not the best line but after reading plenty of reviews (etc) seems although old line tech it is still good for what i need. Thanks Andy
  12. Thanks for the info, i'll try and track some down. Andy
  13. Idealy i woul like decent abrasion resisdance and sinking but i think abrasion is the main one. I don't tend to fish really big waters, usually upto 10 acres so no casting big distances but i do do alot of bag and stick fishing.
  14. I'm looking for a sinking line with good abrasion resistance good casting ability and cheap. Lol.
  15. Hi all, I'm looking at getting some line to fill the reels that i'm getting and have narrowed it down to these two Daiwa Sensor and Hyper Sensor. I like the Sensor as it states that it had good abrasion resistance and the Hyper Sensor is thinner for the same pundage so should cast better. Any thoughts. Thanks Andy
  16. Thanks for the responce, im not afteran out and out casting reel, just something that will go a decent distance with the rods. Also they balance the rods really nicely too. I'd rather be over gunned than under. Andy
  17. You can get the Fox Micron MX+ for about £32 from angling direct and that has volume and tone control. I think they go generally for about £35 so only a fiver each above his budget. Andy
  18. Hi all, Going today to get my new reels, i'm looking at the Shimano DL 10000 RB baitrunner reels. I've had a feel and like the build quality but as i've not fished with them would like to know if anyone on here has had/used them and what their thoughts on them are. Also if anyone can sugest a different reel for around the £50 price. Thanks in advance Andy
  19. As others have said NGT bits and pieces are ok, i have the landing net handle, ok it's a bit heavier and thicker then the best models and it doesn't look as cool but it has worked for me for over 2 years now and is still going strong and at £8.99 i thought ot was a bargain too, also if i break it i won't be as bothered as if i had paid £50! I have just upgraded my rods and have bought Shimano Tribal Velocity 3.25tc rods and have to say although not alot more expensive (£15) than my older rods (JRC Contact 2.75tc) they are worlds appart. I also have the NGT Tackle box and Bivy table, i personally think They are as good as the rest and won't be upgrading them any time soon. With NGT tackle you generally have to pick it up and have a feel to see if it's ok and will suit your needs but generally for a beginner i don't think there is anything wrong with it. Just my opinion!
  20. Hi all, I'm looking at getting 2 new rods, the Tribal Velocity 3lb or 3.25lb tc they are bh the same price at £55 each Firstly, has anyone owned or know anyone that has had any and if so are they any good? Secondly, what TC would you go for 3lb or the 3.25? Thanks Andy
  21. Hi guys, Not sure if this is off topic! Can i ask why you all (most) seem to prefere to use freezer baits over shelf lifes? It seems to me the main problem with freezer baits is keeping them fresh which is why i assume you air dry them, would shelf lifes not eleviate this? I can understand that if you make your own baits that you have no real choice other than to freeze them but if purchasing main brands then you do have a choice. Andy
  22. Thanks for all the responces guys, this has given me plenty to look at and plenty to find out about. Thanks again Andy
