I'll definitly try and commit to it! It will be hard to resist reeling them in, I'll swap both rods over to zigs during the first day and see how it goes. Will definitely post how it goes on here I'll also put some photos up of the rigs I use, I've got some nice zig bugs, grey ones and purple ones
-
I've got a few regular leads that I could take with me and use on a lead clip, I always use inline leads but I'll switch it over for the zigs. What i think I'll do as I'm getting there Friday evening is fish on the bottom overnight and get a zig rod set up to swap out with one of the bottom bait rods in the morning, fish that one at 1 foot under - You can only use 2 rods on my lake. I'll then just change the rig on the other rod and fish a zig with that one a bit deeper. I've got some of that Nash Gyro bug mix thats supposed to be good for fishing zigs so I'll just put some of that out as well
-
Same i had a long zig rig before and used it for a few hours with no luck, I had a piece of yellow foam and used my mates bug juice on it but reeled it in and stuck a bottom bait on it.
-
Fair enough so do you think the 12lb zig line I ordered will be no good for a weedless venue? @Carpmachine, I see so if I'm going to use zigs on my syndicate, just use a 3ft line attached to an inline lead rather than using a float?
-
Oh really? ok then it does say it's going to be quite warm next week, highs 18 over the weekend, do you still think that will be a bit cold in the day? I've been looking in to it a little bit and people say you can catch on zigs in the winter as well - I know it's probally a bit harder though! I ordered Ultima Zignature Floater and Zig Line Clear 100m 12lb - it's a flurocarbon coated line designed to be bouyant for zig fishing
-
Hey Haven't posted on here in a while but have fished quite a lot over the last couple of years, I've decided I want to give zigs another go - I had a go before but had no luck. I've bought some of the Nash zig floats, zig bugs and some proper zig line so I should be good tackle wise just wanted to see what you guys think about fishing with zigs this time of year? Next Friday I'm going out for 48 hours and fishing my syndicate, it's a 4 acre silt lake that averages around 4ft deep, so quite shallow. It's got some upper 20's and apparent 30 in it. What do you recommend it's looking overcast and quite warm in the day so should I fish the zigs maybe 1ft under the surface during the day then put bottom baits out for the night? Cheers, Jason

Hey guys haven't been on for a while, I've hardly fished this winter either. No worries I think the LBAC ticket looks great regardless, £40 for the year you can't go wrong, pretty sure the GUC in Leighton is luton angling club but you can day fish it for about a fiver from what I can remember.
-
Or the grand union canal? Not sure if the membership covers that
-
Hey again I'm looking to sign up for LBAC as suggested 40 quid is well worth it for a year I just have to wait until May, I can see it allows you to fish Claydon, Rackley, Tiddenfoot, Turners lake and River Ouzel. Earlier carpmachine said that it includes some of the canal we were talking about, did you mean the River Ouzel?
-
Yeah I will do no worries mate, I might fish next week but that will most likely be on a runs water like chestnut pools, ill save the canal for a few weeks
-
Hey guys, I'm probally going to need some better gear to fish the harder lakes there, I'm going to try out the canal soon when it warms up a little, over 10 degrees on a day off and I'll be there. I'll have to check out that DVD bivvysteet, might have some interesting tips if I'm planning a session there.
-
I probally would end up with broken rods going for big cats,I only have 2.5 tc maver abyss rods, ill only be going for carp but would love to get one on the bank. I know they are realy slimy and good fighters but it's all part of the sport. I'm planning to go on a fishing trip to France next year so will be getting 3 lb rods for that anyway so they would be better for the larger lakes with cats in
-
Hey Androo, how was your fishing trip? Okay sounds good I'd like to give it a go I know you need something more like halibut pellets for cats rather than boilies but also heard they do sometimes go for carp bait. Suppose it depends on the water your fishing. Let me know what your mate says though. I'm happy to go for carp anyway and a cat would just be a good bonus. I'm definitely up for a session next year March onwards ill properly start up again
-
Oh really? Funnily enough glm is the best bait I've ever used.. I used to use glm shelf life by dynamite baits untill they discontinued it now I've moved on to freezer baits I can't help but make sure it's in there!
-
I hope so too, I probally won't visit the lake unless I hear back from them! Do you think ill have similar results if my boilies are fishmeal based? I use 15 mm genesis from active bait solutions but I get them to add green lipped mussel powder
-
Thanks guys, carpmachine im definitely going to try those lakes, I've night fished along before but only well fished busy lakes like manor farm and stanwick. I'd love to get a Wells catfish which I know they have! Hey Newmarket, just researched crow green and it looks great I've asked them if they will allow me to fish a night as they only allow regular fisherman to do so, I noticed they have up to 90 lb cats! May need stronger tackle, my rods are only 2.5lb
-
That's exactly what I'm thinking mate, if it includes night fishing it will pay for itself after 2 sessions
-
Do you know which water fa turns the canal you mentioned? Also are they safe for night fishing as far as you are aware? Thanks again
-
Sounds good thanks a lot ill definitely check out Leighton AC, only one I've looked at so far is luton AC but didn't hear all good things about it. I think I'll take your advice and g for the canal, maybe try for cats if not definitely go there March onwards. Thanks a lot for your tips mate
-
Hi mate I'm mainly targeting carp but would love to catch a cat. I got told in a fishing shop that "you have more chance of freezing over hell than catching a cat this time of year" which put me off a bit. I'm definitely going to look in to fishing the canal, I have so much gear though is there much space along the canal?

Hi all, I've recently heard about Tring reservoirs and have been doing a little research. I'm interested in the slightly easier water Marsworth Reservoir but wondered if any of you have fished there before and if you have any advise? I know it's a cold time of year so fishing such a large venue might not be such a good idea but if anyone does regularly fish there I'd love to hear your opinion. Thanks, Jason.
