  1. Hi mate, Standard ledger tactics, I'd go with spam or boilies as there are loads and loads of roach, rudd and perch in there, a big piece of bread would do the job though.. The biggest fish I've seen out came off the flat bank side although I've caught on the sloping side it's a bit of a job to get set up there. Behind the island is a no-fishing zone, and the carp regularly patrol in and out so they can be targeted in the channels either side. Hope this helps Cheers
  2. Hi Inter, sorry only just seen this. Advice on the camping or fishing?
  3. I've stayed at Fir Tree in Warmington. Nice campsite and good carp fishing, the lake isn't huge but there are some high doubles in there and some lovely Koi too. Sadly no night fishing. There is an falconry display/bird sanctuary on site, but no other children's activities. Get the kids fishing, the lake is absolutely stuffed full of roach, rudd and perch, it's how I got my daughter into it.
  4. Cheers for the info, will try and get on there next month once the clocks have gone on.
  5. Can you give me contact details for Canons Ashby? Visited the house and saw the lake, wondered if it was fishable.
  6. Hi Ray, did you catch the 22lb'er locally, I'm in Stratford and looking for good waters in the area too.
  7. Great post, just what we need on here, more please
  8. Clattercote Resevoir and Lavender Hall both night fish too.
  9. I've night fished Dog Lane, didn't catch any carp as they were spawning (should have checked first, schoolboy error ) Did have a couple of cracking sturgeon, 13lb and 10lb which scrap like a carp twice the size. As for Southam, there is a good chinky and a chip shop on the main drag through town, and Southam Country Stores sells pellets, boilies, groundbait and various tinned stuff like sweetcorn and hemp as well lots of pet foods in a pick'n'mix way that could be mixed into groundbaits. You forgot Bishops Bowl which is just outside Southam, they have night fishing on two lakes. Anglers Hideaway which is nearby too has night fishing but they don't have any carp over about 11lb according to the owner.
  10. Is your daughter at Southam College? My daughter is there and says there are fishing matches from time to time.
  11. Smatstots found this new fishery the other day by chance. They've only been open a year or so, no monsters yet but wondered if anyone had heard of it before or fished it? Looks like a nice enough place, and from the website it sounds as though the owners are enthusiastic anglers too.
  12. 10M of ESP Camo link was £4.50, ten size 6's £3.75 and ten swivels £2.50 so not far off the tenner I thought.
  13. Where do you live mate? And is Lavender Hall worth a chuck? Been thinking of trying there, what's it got in it?
  14. Bailey's in Warwick. I'm sure I bought the hooks, swivels and ESP hooklink for around a tenner, but it certainly wasn't 25 squid which was the point I was trying to make.
  15. A single size 10-12 ESP hair rig costs £2.50 in my local tackle shop, so if I wanted ten I'd be spending £25. To buy ten hooks, ten swivels and a roll of hooklink material costs about a tenner, and I've got the satisfaction of knowing that the rig that caught the fish was made by myself. I do have a couple of ESP ones, but I by make my own now. Horses for courses, if you have the skill, patience and confidence to tie your own, it's great, if not, then the pre-tied ones are fine for general applications.
  16. I dropped in at bishops bowl today just to enquire about night fishing as I was passing. Have to say I was very impressed with the help and advice I was given by the owner Sean. He offered to fish with me when I go and help me tackle up. Loads of advice on bait and tactics on a couple of the lakes, really nice bloke, better than some lakes I've been to where all they're interested in is your ticket money.
  17. A 14yr old short haired english blue pedigree cat, called Velcro.
  18. Fair point, but even in half a day we should have seen some sign of fish activity on six rods, whether by liners or surface activity, which is why we moved down the RAC rally track to the much smaller Old Lake. We had five rods on the bottom, one float fishing. Baits used during the day were three types of boilies, some popped up, others not, fake sweetcorn, real sweetcorn, spam, and halibut pellet. The boiles and pellets were fished with PVA mesh freebies and three different groundbait mixes. I'm not denying there are fish in the specimen lake, a 30 came out two weeks ago, but the overall experience was less than expected, purely from an infrastructure point of view.
  19. Hi all, fished Nellbridge at Aynho in Northants on Friday just gone, with Smartstots and his dad who had travelled up from Essex to join us. We got there at half seven, in the rain and trudged round the lake in the mud to try and find suitable swims to fish. For a lake which boasts 30's it was a bit of a disappointment to be honest, no permanent platforms or hardstanding, just muddy banks and poor heavily rutted tracks to the lakes. The three of us fished two rods each, various baits and tactics from half seven til half one on the specimen lake, without even a line bite between us. The only fish we saw was a dead one washed up in the reeds. After speaking to another angler who had turned up to prebait, we moved down the aforementioned track to the Old Lake, which supposedly had more fish but only up to 15lb. We fished the six rods on there til about half five, with the same result, nothing moved and no sign of any fish in there despite plenty of groundbait and roaming the swims. I know the weather hasn't warmed up completely yet, but it didn't fill me with confidence. Wouldn't fish there again, purely based on the access and peg conditions.
  20. Couldn't visualise it from the description, but now I've seen the pictures I like it. As far as I can see the hook poses less of a hazard than a maggot ring which has an exposed end.
  21. I have contacted the owner and this lake is no longer available to the public to fish They would appreciate it if their details could be removed from the site. Cheers
  22. Has anyone fished this lake? I drive past is most weeks and it looks awesome. I have seen a number for it in the directory on here but I don't know how old that is, I think the place got bought recently.
  23. I night fished the Meadow Pool last year, it was awful, the lake was overflowing on the far bank because it had sprung a leak which the owner had tried unsuccesfully to plug by dumping a couple of tons of soil in against it! The fish are poor quality but by far the worst experience was around midnight, a group of six or seven lads, taking a short cut back from god knows where, all swigging cans, came right round the lake up to our bivvies to see what we were up to. OK they weren't up to no good but it shows there isn't any security, if they had wanted to they could have had all our gear, there was only me and my mate there that night. Certainly put me on edge for the rest of the night, didn't sleep a wink after that.
