  1. not too sure but i know the carp go up to at least 20LB in their
  2. Thanks mate, i was planning on using corn also i should of said in my first post, ill be fishing the big lake.
  3. Hey guys, I couldn't find anything on the search feature so i thought i would make a new topic. Has anyone fished Henlow bridge fisheries recently? i have not fished it for a around 4-5 months but i will be going either on the weekend or start of next week for a day session. Also does anyone know what the carp enjoy over there? I have never had any luck but i have seen my mate catch 3 carp on halibut pellet but i haven't even had a bleep on them
  4. I use between 6inch - 12 inch hooklinks depending on the venue and i find that around 6 or 8inch is enough of a length for solid bags. also to answer your question about the lead, How small is the lake? and how far do you generally cast? but i would personally use a in line lead either way because it also helps hooking the fish as well.
  5. patty, im sorry if my post seemed rude, i didnt intend to, its just a bit of a unusual request, i have had my gear stolen in the past and am always weary of lending it out. i only ever let people use my gear if im with them and i know them very well, i regularly get asked by my scouts to take them one day but they have to gain my trust first. there have been cases where anglers have been held at knife point or even one angler im aware off that actually got tied up and left in a ditch while the people stole his stuff, so im sure you can understand our reactions. I think a coaching session is great and you and your fella will learn loads. i wish you the best of
  6. They do allow night fishing over their however you must book it with the balif in advance and they only allow certain days for night fishing so i recommend that you go see the balif one day since i cant remember the day but i think its only friday and saturday they dont allow it.
  7. perhaps its a scam, perhaps its not, cant tell but it does seem a bit of a weird question to ask to total strangers. if you boyfriend loves fishing why does he not have his own tackle? or know enough to fish on his own? that bit strikes me as a bit weird. like ross said, if it isnt a scam and you are actually trying to do something nice then i wish you luck but if you cant, why not go buy him his first rod and reel, you can ask local tackle shops to help you out.
  8. i spoke to one of the balifs the other week when i went for a day session and he said that the lake record was 36LB, that was caught about 2 or 3 year ago so he reckons he is around 38-40 LB now
  9. i chose dynamite baits since i have used all three options in the past and have done well on all three but i have done best on dynamite. i think that you should use what you feel most confident with. just ask yourself one simple question, what has caught you the most fish? and theres your answer. thats how i feel anyway
  10. hey shaun, welcome to the forum. perhaps you should try manor farm fisheries. they have multiple lakes including a carp lake and a specimen carp lake. you have to book a swim for the specimen carp lake but there isnt too much of a waiting list i do not think mate. type manor farm fisheries into google and you should find it, it is in lower caldercote
  11. i havent seen total carp yet but ill keep a look out. i am not sure what the biggest is in there but my personal best is 18 and a half pound from there so im sure they go into the 20s. why dont you ask the bailiff? also do you fish stanborough alot? how is it fishing, im thinking of going back there.
  12. half tucked blood knot...
  13. hey guys i should be heading to Decoy lakes soon. i have heard it is a easy venue in terms of catching fish. i was just curious if anyone else has fished it and has any tips on bait or methods to use. J
  14. glad i could help a bite alarm would be great since it allows you to concentrate on your lure fishinh
  15. i have never caught a carp on the canal before but i know there are carp where i fished the canal!!!! they keep evading me! however there typical canal fish and will be found in most of the canal, i cant see any reason why the pike wont be in the same swim as the roach, perch since the pike will eat them so its natural food for them. i dont see many fish showing on the canal, i generally fish in one place if im using ground bait but you could be moving up the canal and look for bubbles ect coming up and spend 20 or 30 mins fishing on spot. using two rods i cant see being a problem unless your getting a fair amount of bites on one. i personally would set up the feeder rod with a cage feeder with a bait alarm and wait 10 mins and see what happens before putting the pike rod in.
  16. well as for locating the fish, over hanging trees or brambles are great, stay away from locks as it is annoying having to bring your rod out of the water for periods of time while people use the lock. in your bit of canal i will presume there will be bream, roach, perch, gudgeon and most likely carp aswell. i find fishing a stick float with maggot works great for roach or with a lob worm for perch and ground bait is good aswell a standard match mix is good enough but if you want to make your own, then heres what i use on the canal if i dont use a pre maid match mix. brown bread crumb mixed with red bread crumb with hemp sead mixed in works great on my bit of the canal. also chopped worm work great for perch
  17. i haven't fished that stretch myself but i have fished the grand union before so ill give you what advice i can. maggots will work great generally on the canal especially with the colder weather coming. sweetcorn and meat will work also. as for bollies, i have seen bollies work on my stretch of canal however i have never seen anyone else using them before so may worth a try on the canal. sorry i couldn't of been more help
  18. hey guys i am going to coots corner on wednesday and i wonder if anyone has any tips or advice i saw a old thread about it but that was more a catch report other than tips/ advice. can anyone help me out? what works well ect all types of hints and tips welcome
  19. i fish stanborough lakes quite alot (well used to but have just started going back there) and the swim that most people try to fish is the first swim nearest the tackle barn there. i have had my PB there at 18 and a half LB. if you manage to get that swim, fish right up tight to the weeds on the right hand side. however i have been looking around the lake up the far end (if you look from the car park, its end farest away from you.) and i have seen some very nice swims with some carp rolling and jumping. it is a bit of a walk to them but if you dont mind the walk then might be worth trying up there next time you go, thats what ill be doing. how did it go when you went last week mate?
  20. well i am starting to think about joining one of them however i am only 17 and currently dont have any income coming in so i cant afford to join a club really but i will probably join one next year at the start of the new season
