been looking at this on google maps and looks a great lake,but can't find anything recent on this place....any info from anyone this is not to be confused with the 2 lakes on the farm opposite,it's a single lake probably half a mile or so across the road and a couple of fields. only info i could find is about 5-7 years old,no recent reports so any help would be grateful.

cheers colin,i did have a wander along a small part of the river a couple of months ago down to the lock keppers cottage on the common..didn't go any further. can you park anywhere near the a10 bridge??

i'm not doing an overnighter now,change of plans. BUT will be on the bank first thing new years day as i won't be out new years eve.

cheers phil,i did have a walk round it about a year ago,think i met his wife at the lock and she let me have a wander down to brooke lake. chatted with a couple of guys on there,seemed like a friendly bunch and ur right about the trek if ya don't drive down there

yeah i have fished there during the day,but due to the fact that its also a camping site,not sure if i would be on my own,so to speak also thinking of willows in st.albans. don't know any others though?

hi all,just wondered if anyone can give me any info on SAFE places to night fish as close to Hertford as possible for new years eve. Gonna be on my own so want a secure lake. don't fancy any late night visits by beer'd up chavs

just wondering if anyone knows of any FREE fishing lakes or stretchs of river banks in Hertford/Ware?? Any info would be good,i keep trying online but there doesn't seem to be much info out there,have found plenty of waters on google maps though but obviously don't know if you can fish for free etc etc. cheers guys.

i have recently moved down the road from these lakes and they look very good. anyone got any recent info on them would be apprieciated.

that's old news...it was all sorted ages ago and was mainly with the old owners from what i know,it changed owners a couple of years ago and is very well run and looked after now.

fitzy...the whole place is a gravel pit so "gravely" leads etc would be best camoflage. personally if there are no features to fish to i tend to cast one rod out about a third of the way out and one about half way..but if there is someone opposite me then one a third of the way out and one about a rod length from the tip of my other rod.

i was on the left as you go in on the match lake casting out to the island rob..blanked all day..but it was bloody cold think i will try the other end next time i go,up where the match lake joins the farm lake,i have heard it can be good up there. was using scopex boilies then switched to pellets...the only thing eating my pellets were the bloody seagulls i have also been told that on the right just before the pilons is a good spot on match lake as apparantly that is where they stock the lake from.

when i went the farm lake had flooded into the match lake is there anything stopping the fish from swimming between the two or will they now be in either lake

hello mate,i too have just moved into the area(potters bar). it was my first time fishing there,found the bailiffs very helpful and friendly and the venue to be very good,i was on the match lake near to the toilets but after speaking to a few people on there it seems that the best places are on the right side and at the other end I will be going back as a day ticket water i like the size so don't think i will be too confined by other lines in the water. I am thinking of joining the verulam club as they have some excellent waters too. where else have you fished?

I just got back from a 10 hour stint at willows lakes,and totally blanked I had heard this was a rare thing to do but seeing as i nearly got frostbite,i can understand why the fish were reluctant to feed. Just as my friend and i were packing up after loosing the feeling in various bodyparts due to the wind chill,i was looking at the water,nothing with each bit of kit i put away No sooner had i packed my rods(always the last thing,just incase) than a decent looking carp poked his head out of the water literally 5 feet from where i was standing...i could have cried but my frozen tear-ducts wouldn't let me Oh well fish 1-me 0...the return match will be soon

i have only been living in hertfordshire for a couple of months too and have already checked out a few waters...verulam seems to be the winner so far and especially Smallford(immaculate and very secure)..think they will let you have dogs but there are signs all over the place that you MUST clean up after them,it seems they have been having trouble in the past with the mess and now have a zero tolerance policy,if they find any you will be shown the door/gate

i haven't broken my fishing book cherry yet but do enjoy stephen king,especially IT..must have read that at least 5 times,absolutly wicked book but the film is toilet

I was thinking of checking this place out tomorrow but have heard mixed reports from people/forums. Anyone got any current info on the place regarding prices,trouble,parking etc. I know it used to have a bad reputation but have also heard that it has now been sorted out..electic gates,fences etc. any info would be good guys,thanks.

if you mean Furnace Lakes in Slinfold,then it's fishing ok,obviously slower due to the time of year but still good. try using the margins as there seem to be more bites

yes i had a look at the website,they have some great looking waters,just dropping some hints around the house for my membership for xmas i also liked the look of a lovely lake in shepards way but that's run by barnet angling. might have to join both memberships

I went to look round this place a couple of days ago,very impressed with it and it's immaculate,good swims etc. I got talking to one of the only 3 guys fishing there and didn't want to disturb him to much,but from what he said it's known to be a hard water to fish but has some lovely lumps in there. Has anyone here fished it,it's members only and i'm going to join soon.

you've got 2 hopes mate,i have lived in and around sutton for most of my life and apart from day tickets,you can join a couple of places but it ain't cheap,and they aren't exactly local. i never bothered,just try to find a nice quiet location and hope for the best
