  1. A uncaught carp is an easier carp to hook in my opinion. i came up with this conclussion when i hooked a pristine 23lb common that some how evaded capture. its believed that you can tell that a carp hasn't been hooked because of the flap of skin in there mouth. some people believe that this disappears after the hook penetration wound heals. i believe this to an extent, but i think it takes a few hookings for it to deteriate. so if the carp has never been caught or the flap of the skin is large then the hook has something else to catch on. as wilfster said some carp have softer mouths because the lake is silty etc... and some have harder mouths because they feed on gravel etc... the lake im on now i can tell which carp prefer grubbing around in the silt and the ones who prefer the cleaner areas. the ones who are regular silt grubbers as i call them have jet black mouths where the silt has stained them. just something else i thought i would throw in
  2. I shall not put down the wicked thoughts I have about the brand then lol i dont have a prefered brand i just buy what i need. i must admit their rig tubing is awful, esp anchor all the way.
  3. I used to use normal rig tubing which split all the time then a mate put me onto this stuff. It still splits but very rarely, there seems to be a lot more flexibility in this tube. Hope this helps Massive help nice one
  4. I dont do it just for the blowback style i only really do it so it keeps the hair coming off the bend but without the extra weight of tubing. Its a good idea mate, but not for me. i like that extra weight on the hook and it stops the hair tangling, i dont mean just on the cast either. thanks anyway i might even encounter a time when i need to use it.
  5. Its the fine stuff from korda so cant be re-threaded. ill have a look to see what shrink tube i have. cheers Nick and everyone else.
  6. No thanks not interested in blowback style, must be a type of tubing. small bore but quite thick! i suppose a hookbead could work!?
  7. i dont think you understand what tubing i mean. its 0.5mm thick and yes i do
  8. what do you guys use to hold the hair in place on the hook? for a while now i have used a fine bore silicone tubing, but everytime i catch a carp it splits which means tying up a new rig or using a spare one. its becoming a bit annoying now. my mate said rig tubing but i find that a bit to bulky and slips too easily. any advice would be helpfull cheers.
  9. My mate has been on single grain of fake corn for nearly two years now! mainly because he his a student and cant afford to buy boilies. i always say how cheap is sweetcorn? but he has now come acustom to the fake stuff. i even witnessed it in action the other day, he casted out a single piece to showing fish just before dark, in pitch darkness a full one toner lead to a 22lb common in the net. i reckon he has the luck of the irish.
  10. yeah thats it they sometimes just swim around a tight line without spooking. by making it so obvious it might just work!? i have seen a carp spook after picking up a stick whilst feeding, that was with no rig in the water. make what you will out of that. i cant say for sure if they can tell the difference between the two, but i think they will be cagey of anything they accidently pick up off the bottom whilst feeding. ill try and get down to a lake soon thats not a runs water, but not hard. ill report back with results asap.
  11. Well all what i can say is thanks to Nick and Steve for some of the best fishing information i have heard, since being shown how to tie the knotless knot that is anyway One thing i have thought about since reading this thread is, everyone seems obsessed with pinning your end tackle down, but how about letting your hooklink looping up off the bottom? acting more natural so to speak or popping your tubing up vertically or the lake bed? might be treated with less caution.
  12. If they are feeding hard i go for short. if im struggling for a bite i go long. no idea why, but it works for me.
