  1. i spent alot of time here.alot.. and had a fair few nice fish out of here too.between myself and 3 others who spent our time there,i would say we had atleast 10 different twentys out.all in pristine condition,as they were hard to catch.once did 4 nights without a knock.. that said there were a few nice high doubles cauht and nothing under 12lb,apart from i gigantic roach thet took a double 15mm bottom bait..ther used to be 3 ghosties that would patrol the margains and i would literally spend hours following them and groud up with a couple of nice mirrors..there was a myth of a 30 plus in there, and seeing as we had pretty much every decent fish out of the in our time (many repeat captures) i started to doubt it until whilst up a tree watching the ghosties, what only can be described as a pig with fins came out of the margain reed bed and bullied them away, causing me to nearly fall out the tree with excitment no joke, she was a 35 plus all day long......never caught her though..and unfortunately,no one ever will as there winter we had last year completley wiped out every fish in the lake.i got to know andy the owner quite well, and he was obviosly devastated.the last i spoke to him he had around 150 plus f1 type carp and a few doubles coming in to help get things up and running and get people anglig again, but unfortunately if its multiple runs off decent size carp you are after i would go eleswhere.ring him though, hes a nice chap and knows his beans
  2. i dont know about the 27 lads, but i can tell you i had two twentys out of apley last year.the first was a 20lb 6oz common, and was the last fish of a hectic sesh, and the 2nd was a 21lb 12 common, the first fish of another cracking sesh the weekend after.does that count as a brace?? i also had a repeat capture of a stonking dark mirror we named 'two belly' as its right side fin was missing, along with a hefty chunk of flesh(fully healed by the way, must have happend years ago) creating the effect of it looking like it had two guts!that was 16 something.this, along with loads of other commons upto 19.8 made for a ace few seshions.unfortunatley, the more people that knew, the busier it became,my own fault for spouting my mouth off to bob in wellington tack shop.couldnt help myself, when someone asks you how youre getting on,and your last two decent fish have come from apley, you tell them with a big grin anyway, yeah, some good chunks in there boyos, like i say, cant vouch for the 27,but there is some real bonus fish in there you just accociate with the place
  3. did well on the place 2 winters ago mate.single richworth tuttis cast to clay bar off peg 16.no freebies,no pva, just simple rigs.pop ups seemed to hammer the simmos but the bottom baits produced a few nice welly commons to 24lb.was going for 48 hrs armed with literally 20 boilies counted out of the freezer and a tub of popups
  4. it depends what youre after? 20 or more carp in a day is easily achievable at melverly,so if you want a bend in your rod,and the chance of some perfect upper doubles,i wouldnt rule it out.last time i went my biggest was an 18 common.stunning fish and not a mark on it.that was my largest of a 12 fish session and was only there for a short session. yeh normans wierd, but all he wants is the money in the box before you fish and hes happy ploughing muck in the next field for the rest of the day then. and yeh,the 30 is a myth, but arent most day ticket places the same? theres always someone who knows someone whos had a monster out,and unless youre on a syndicate, where you know what the lake record is,youl never know unless youre lucky enough to hook it. i have been literally hundreds of times,as like i say i used to live 2 mins away, and have seen some cracking lumps come out,and had many enjoyable sessions with my carp gear catching lots of carp. youve only been once and have drawn your conclusion by only catching 3 fish?? all i say is,go,give it a go,its not the worst place by any means, and i guarantee you will catch.if you want to sit it out for the bigguns, then yeh, wrekin res is probably a better shout, but when my syndicate rota isnt on my week on,i go sumwhere like melverly for a bit of a confidence boost and to see if my rigs that failed to catch a monster on my lake actualy work!!
  5. fished it for years mate as i grew up 2 minutes down the road.used to catch some lovely fish just on waggler with meat,of course the turned my hand to carping and have still never blaked there on the good old boilie.as you go in,there is a small pool on the left that guarantees a gret days sport, with the average size id say about between 4 and ten pounds.hes been doing some work to this pool so its a tad bigger than it used to be. then theres the middle pool which is at the start of the bend toward the house.never fished it,gets alot of pole fishermen on there. as you turn the bend you will see the house, drive straight past and you will see the gate entrance to the bottom pool, which in my opinion is your best bet for a better size fish.read the rules though mate, and pay before you go in though the gate, because the guy who runs it norman is of a strange breed!!! he will leave you alone though.ignore all the caravans aswell mate,it used to just be a camping site but now he stores them aswell.as you go in,the first swim has an inlet streaming in,a few 12mm boilies and 2 on the hair wit a small pva bag of pellets is an absolute winner dropped right next to it,and then just fish to the island with a scattering of freebies and you wont go wrong
  6. the only reason i say reliability,is that im yet to lose a fish, hook pull or otherwise, and they always seem to be nailed in the centre if the bottom lip! fished a day ticket on sunday( my syndicate is rota basis week on week off) and managed to tease the first carp out in 5 days tried a blow back rig, still using the 18s,and it seemed to do the trick,so will give it a bash next week. i was thinking that maybe with the kd,that there is alot of play between the boiliee and the hook, and seeing as the bait was far to big for the pasties mouth, they are still able to pick up the hook?? i dunno, just thinking that if the fish has actualy got to suck in the bait,to actualy get the hook in its mouth,i have less chance of picking up the small stuff? what you reckon?
  7. ive only just uppes to 18s,so not had chance to get any hooks. but still, managed to nail 2 pasties again last night..not happy days
  8. size 8 curv shank, tied kd style with the to of the bait level with the bottom of thre curv of the hook.just standard kd style really.thought of going back to basics thats caught in the past, just love the reliability of the kd i suppose. thanks for the tips though, back on there tonight so i will try whip a goodn out
  9. no partical mix at all mate.just boilies.changed to 18s last nite,no pasties so thats a start.boilie had been wittled down though,so maybe air drying will sort that.theres still the issue.on how they are nailing themselves though? it must be the rig??
  10. just a quick one, though i will probably go on abit so sorry in advance... i joined a small syndicate in june, which has a decent head of nice size carp in for the size of the lake, the lake record came out last week at 31.4lb. my first two sessions resulted in three 20 plus carp, not a new pb unfortuntley, but was suitably pleased with my results.this was the first week after closed season,so thought i was giong to be in with a good few months ahead..... my trouble is that now last years spawn,or asbos as we like to call them have got seriously hungry, and am now struggling like hell to get through them.my mate had 18 6 inch carp on an overnighter last week, and we have both woke up to find our line facing a completley diffrent side of the lake, with small pasties connected to each rod without even registering on our alarms i have been using the kd rig religiously,as i am yet to lose a fish on it,but am now wondering if its the way forward,as i am nailing these little beauties square in the bottom lip, using double 15mm boilies...there is no way they can fit them in thier mouths!!!!! any input or ideas on how to single out the biggies would be much apreciated.cheers
  11. yes mate thats the name on the gate anyway.head towards telford on m54 get off at the services for shifnal, and get to the small roundabout at the services.take your immediate left and it sweeps round the back of the service station and the gates 200yards on the right.bumpy track though so if its been raining watch for puddles because they might be deep go down past a badly hand written sign post and you'll see 2 small pools eiher side of you,if you carry on round you'll see the main lake.good thing about it is you can park at your peg so you dont have to lug your gear or worry about your car.been having good results on squid liver+ mate
  12. alright will, thought id say theres a pool by me just before telford off the m54 called bayliss.has been renound for being a bit of a s hole, but have been recently on a few overnighters after work as i work right next to it.hes really cleaned it up and havent blanked there yet.my biggest is 18 out of there but my mate had a nice 22 common on his first trip, and we both went again after where i blanked but he had 9 out to 18lb.people might slate me for recomending it to you,but if they havnt been for a while they probably havnt seen how clean it is.its just a decent pool with a decent bottom with no snags/silt and might produce a few fish for you?
