  1. I see what you mean fixed sounds terminal_Sorry. Also sorrry about the exclamation marks, but the 1st thing I think of in any rig is the safety of the carp
  2. Could well be-I don't think I have invented the wheel here. If it is a classic rig the I can see why as it works V. well
  3. Not sure why it would be a death rig , as if there was a snap off the swivel will pull free from the run rig rubber by korda. All I am using is a classic running rig with a bead pushed onto the tubing-the bead is not fixexed in any way so on any abrasion it will slip free- it is just there to give the fish a jolt. I do not glue or fix the bead in any way
  4. Since I originally posted this question I have changed my hooks to Nash Fang X's and I seem to have increased my runs and the number of fish I hook, whilst I have reduced the number of lost fish . As for the hair everyone's advice (nearly) gave me food for thought so now I tie em at the waterside and play around with the hairlength and the angle and point it leaves the hook. I have also switched back to supple rather tha coated braid which on the runs waters that I am fishing in preparation for the season ahead seems to confuse them; i think that the combi link has become the default rig and is the one that most people instantly use-I know I was starting to be guilty of this. I also changed from a bolt rig to a running rig but with a big bead fixed on the tubing about 2 feet from the swivel; to give the fish a jolt once they were running confidently, which also seems to have improved the quality of my runs. As you can see I have been making 1 change at a time until I am getting the desired result, which I think goes to prove that we should adjust then test, then consider, then adjust again until we have what we want. Advice is useful, but experimentation (Ibelieve) and time on the bvank can never be replaced. Thanks everyone, as I said at the start it just proves that 'There is no one answer'
  5. Hi all, I just re-read my last post and it should say best 12lb-sorry mis type due to alcohol. I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, but never lied about fish and didn't want to start now
  6. I have tried the hair that is twice the bait diameter on a couple of 4 hour sessions and have scored 4 fish, best 14lb's so i have to accept that the theory works. Looks good on the rig too-thanks Nash Gadgeteer Before anyone asks about the size of the fish-it is a runs water and there are alot of small fish so double's are good and yes I know the water is warming up so they will be feeding harder, but the runs I got were above average fish f0r the water.
  7. I hate to sound like middle of the road here, but I use 3-6 feet The length is dependant on the wind strength, and it's direction, calculated against where I can effectively present the bait on the water due to vegetation and landscape.
  8. I tie rigs wen I can't go fishing as well and I also have a habit of rushing off to tie some when I have a sudden moment of clarity after a session and I think I have found the answer ; never is though, because as we all know there is no one answer to what catches Mr or Mrs carp. Probably have about 40 tied at the moment- 20 of my favourite combi links in various lengths, hook sizes and hair lengths, and the rest made uo of different 'specials'. I like to have a few ready tied as I tend to change after every fish- Thank god for qwik links!!!
  9. getting back on track from the tank test humour: Do you think different materials demand different hair lengths e.g. Combi Rigs compared to supple braid
  10. Wish some one had said no fish an hour ago. My son's in tears since I caught his goldfish on a 3lb Longbow. 3oz's in weight, not much of a fight; so I wasn't too chuffed either I am off to the neighbours pond to test the rigs in there now-some of the goldfish run to almost a pound
  11. Interesting that you What is your thinking behind that It sounds like quitre a long hair which I can imagine offers good seperation, however, isn't there the danger of lots of 'single beeps' as the smarter fish simply mouth the bait and avoid the hook?
  12. Hi All, I am sure that it is an old chestnut, but I wondered what lenth of hair people favour? I have been playing around with the length recently and can now see advantages/disadvantages to both... so I thought I would throw it open to the floor I look forward to everyone's opinions; although I am sure that we will all agree that there are no right or wrong answers to this question
  13. Frisby is good fishing had a few nice fish out-up to 28, but the head count is about 150 Carp so finding em is the key! Time spent with a marker and then clipping up and pacing out on the bank when you find a feature is time well spent: good value at less than £30 for a year!!! Is this Tur Langton'ish water day ticket? If it has already been said either way sorry i missed it!
  14. It is sheer frusration that has driven me to zigs The fish on the water I am targeting are cruising just under the surface and I can see their routes but can't get them onto the bottom or up to the top to feed. Any ideas you have apart froma zig would be appreciated><
  15. When fishing a Zig Rig, what is the best set up to maximise bite indication. I keep getting one or two beeps and a quick bang on the rod tip but it's just too fast to hit. I have tried sitting on my hands but they never seem to develop into full runs. What am I doing wrong?
