  1. I only use running rigs forall my fishing ! small leads of less than one ounce. 14lbs main line with 30lbs end braid on a size 6 or 8 hook ! no armoured line (end) unless its for cats or sturgeon. Keep it as simple as possible is my motto ! Line tends to be fluro unless i want to fish on teh surface. with either a pop up or bread /dog biscuit. fishing close in does not need heavy leads and any distance of up to 30 metres the light lead is ok. when useing a pop up . i tend to use a halved one on a 14/16mm boilie ,so the halved popup just lifts the boilie off the ground and no more.. i would use putty if was useing just the pop up on its own. But in this case would use a 20mm pop up but cut in a square rather than keep it round.
  2. yes i now use goat or country mix at £10 for 15 kilos or less i some places . remember goat mix is more expensive than country mix but its the same thing.. banana yogurt in mixers. strawberry fruit dried and cut up (the same for all fruits ) does not kellogs make a fruit breakfast. (use it)
  3. well 24 hour to go before the trip of a lifetime (for me) have i got everything ? 8 kilos of boilies 4 kilos of halibut (various sizes) 300 gram of popups. 8 tins of luncheon meat ,some small amounts of maize and sweetcorn. and about 12/14 kilos of groundbaits 2 litres of molasses 6 small 100 gram pots of hot chilli powder. (carp hook mainly hairs but with 300 metres of 40lb braid to make any hairs.needed plus 2 x100lb kevlar hairs for cat s plus the usual three quarters of an ounce weight for ledgering.. line mainly 23lb fluro but also loaded is 14lbs fluro and 16lbs nylon on spare spool/reel.. 5 carp rods 3x2.75 1x 2.50 1x 2.25 7 large baitrunners one tripod 3 rod pod. 6 spare bank sticks. 2 x steve nevilles plus 3 microns as well. not shure what bivvy to take the Nash explorer or the Atlanta one man Aim is a PB offcourse (no point going is there ?) love to get a 30 lbs (dont hold your breath) a cat (any size or a sturgeon too and hopefully a grass carp too. all pbs.
  4. strange to find a swimming pool at a fishery holiday or well ! Try where i am going Etangs de Breton much cheapeer and yu get a proper place to stay ie a purpose built one bedroom chalet
  5. Nash was a regular at the brentwood show for years but sorry to say the prices for me was a little on the expensive side.. think it worked out for the two of us (one non fishing) worked out at about £1200 for a week includeing everything. (bivvy and food etc). Maybe one day ! we have booked for the three of us (all anglers) with two cabins excludeing food, petrol and hire of large van and gear etc worked out at £350 ( for the three of us) with two lakes to ourselves , at a venue in Britanny in a "runs" water . best carp around 42lbs cats to 100 lbs and some small sturgeon
  6. we arrive on saturday 30th june. for one week. I been told this runs water is pretty good (by uk standards) carp to 40lbs. and eagle has some good cats to about 60+. The only thing not looking forward is the night boat to le havre and it does not arrive until about 9am . we probably have a breakfast on the way but are going the coast route as it is cheaper and anyway we dont need to get there before 1pm..
  7. this small lakes complex appears to have it all. situated 3 hours or less from Le Havre "runs waters" french style carp to 40lbs in most lakes. several lakes have cats to 80lbs.also blue sturgeon and grass carp , all these lakes are basically large ponds the smallest is about an acre or so and you have the lake or lakes to yourselves. they can handle a family of four in one lake normally its two anglers on the other lakes and 3 at a stretch.....note unlike most french lakes there are cabins or caravans to sleep in but offcourse yu can take a shelter . no need for a bait boat as yu have your own "boat" in every lake... run by englishman living on-site.. fishing in late june and with luck get a PB there also.... as my own is only 24lbs dont think that be a problem
  8. Its ok no "offence" but you might need your "passport" next time yu go across the "dartford Bridge". It appears the imigration officers gone there instead of heathrow because of the foreigners comeing over the bridge ! On a more serious level ! I gather dartford has some excellent lakes ! and some huge carp ...
  9. fished it monday only one take ! the fish decided to go towards me (they tend to do that there) and then spit out the hook after a brief struggle. Only one fish caught there by a lady she caught a lovely 43lbs sturgeon on pigs liver. her son broke up on a big cat (thats not really a surprise)think he was on either halibut or luncheon meat..
  10. sorry to say nothing at all .hit into something but go off! then again two guys doing a 24 they had two runs and no fish. Yet a lady and her son had 4 runs in 6 hours and she caught a 43lbs sturgeon on pigs liver... they was fishing the far right on the far back (the new part) . still too early in season for cats !
  11. A couple of years ago at the brentwood carp fair nash was there in force ,with videos of there carp holidays. yes they looked great but the price was well out of my reach ! This is the problem of going on a proper holiday than booking it yourself (through adverts in angling mags).i dont think there fish are any bigger than many other lakes in france and spanish rivers. Its strange the current world record is taken in germany and not france ! Anglers are now getting bored with france and spain for fishing holidays and looking further afield and cheaper . I gather slovakia and romania ,canada are now the places to go for fishing... And maybe in the future most anglers will turn there attentions to such countries. This is not surpriseing really the good old days everyone on a family holiday went to spain (60s) then greece and italy yugoslavia and turkey got a huge slice of the action.
  12. The lake should yield a 90lbs cat and a 50lbs sturgeon there is also a 34+lb carp in the match lake in 2012. By the end of 2013 the cats will be over 100 lbs mark and sturgeon 60lbs. There in my opinion few day ticket lakes that can yield such fish in essex. note churchwood has a lake devoted to cats just opened ! that adds to the two they already have.(note i do not think there cats as big as crow or have any sturgeon either and they charge £30 a day compared with £20 or £10 on a day ticket for two rods (3 are allowed).
  13. anyone been to this venue recently in the last year or so since they extended the lakes ? or what to go for a 12 or 24 hour session there ? please give me a IM . thks the lake is doing pretty well at the moment ,on saturday two sturgeon up to 42lbs was caught there. there are carp over 30lbs and cats to 80lbs+ sturgeon to 50lbs..
  14. This lake had some problems (like a lot of lakes) with fish stealing it went down a couple of years ago and needed a lot of TLC . It was a complete "dive" since then there appears to be some improvements and needed them too. The loo's was in a terrible state so bad yu could actually smell them from a quarter of a mile away ! Fishing was the same ! Newlands problems was magnified that there are much better lakes in the area . Birds green (the lager brigade) crow green (cat and sturgeon brigade and general fishing) and A12 cuton lakes (hot air brigade) (there is also Arruns lake in mountnessing.(general carp). also a day ticket lake on the A414 next to the texaco garage "ongar" carp and tench mainly up to about 25lbs..yu pay at lake ! (if they come to collect the money)note this use to be a BDAC lake ..(nursery lake)
  15. this fishery is more known for cats to 80lbs and sturgeon 50lbs but has some very fine pike and carp to about 30lbs. therte are three lakes two of which have a good head of smaller carp to about 17lbs in the car park lake. The main lake itself has produced some really good ones in the past. If yu fish there ,even with boilies, you need to be aware of catching the odd cat or sturgeon on this bait. and i would advise to fish with a semi locked baitrunner (maybe a loose line method) .and heavy line (not 14lbs) say 23lbs fluro with a size 8 with 35lbs end braid. ( watch for those horid ducks) but prefer myself back leading) For some reason both cats and sturgeon will go for boilies,if yu fish halibut expect cats and sturgeon (small 14mm doubles or a 22mm single)
  16. as forum members may know the mill is also a syndicate as well. the day ticket lake can only be prebooked. the cost is think £10 for 2 rods. When i was there a guy had 9 carp to 14lbs or so . there also pike but i dont think any cats (they are in the syndciate lake and there are only a couple known to be there). carp to about 20 lbs plus.. bream etc etc... Its easy to get too from the A12 great baddow and its about 100 meters from the road as yu turn off the A414 chelmsford? make shure yu cast close to the island. By the way the syndicate is £275 Is the syndicate worth the money??? only if yu live in chelmsford or close to the A12 ingatestone /hatfield peveral Yes go for it ! I was offered membership but decided not too "personal reasons"(at the moment) nothing to do with the lakes themselves or the mangaement there
  17. where ever you go you need a car or someone prepared to take yu. Crow green is your best choice for a 24 hours but also good for 12 hours 7am to 7pm birds green is ok for 12 hour sessions only (in my opinion) you could try Raphaels park in romford (free fishing) but no idea if there are any carp in there at all. south weald park is expensive as they also charge for parking and as far as i know charge for a yearly ticket only. Par lakes A127 carp cats but you need a baitboat there. Tylers common only if you are desperate ! has 6 lakes (12 hours only) east peasy lakes best bait there is raw bacon.. fish small even on the specimen lake (laugh) ideal for the kids and you never know may get a surprise there. fish between 2lbs and 7lbs except the specimen lake they are larger to about 12lbs ( try ash lake )
  18. try crow green brentwood cats to 82lbs sturgeon to 50lbs and carp to 30lbs cost £20 a night/day but yu need to be known to them. But i maybe able to help yu on this ,as i am a regular there IM me anytime
  19. yes i can see there might be a problem regarding these as france has some blackhole areas, especially in the rural areas This is something i need to find out ! pointless takeing one if there is not a signal .. and someone mentioned bartteries for alarms etc. Thought about buying a windup up lantern and several large rechargeable lanterns / torches... (these i get anyone for uk fishing) battery could be a problem to take abroad. and as someone said they are very expensive in france.. Petrol in france is more expensive so might be worth buying a couple of jerry cans (metal) especially if hireing a van ..
  20. well i have still months to but i have a list.(there are some strange rules at the venue) fish mainly carp up to 40lbs but the choice of fishing for cats/sturgeon to about 60lbs in the other lake (we have the lakes to ourselves for a week) bait. luncheon meat 7 tins , sweetcorn one kilo of frozen , boilies about 3/4 kgs halibut pellets about 3/6 kgs maizeone kilo.. (note particles only allowed as bait) pop ups, maybe some surface baits too...(spodding is not allowed unless useing pellets) ground bait this i am limited too non- particles so probably useing grounded bread,..molasses, tuna, chilli powder. decided not to use any pellets at all unless i get them at the venue .... line 14lbs 18lbs and 23lbs fluro on each spool (spare ones) with 40lb braided hairs for end line if needed and the usual 20/ 25lbs size 4/6/8/10 hairs. rods one barbel rod rest will be heavier carp rods at least 2.75 or 3.25 for small cats/sturgeon reels 3 diawa 4500/5000 ABi and a mini bait runner . thats about it on the main gear.... can anyone think i may have forgot something ???
  21. You could consider CB walkie talkies, CB is used throught europe and it would be a good way a relieveing the boredom particular intravelling throughout europe to fishing venues. also with a range of up to 10 miles useful for when going out to pick up "food " at the local village and leaveing someone behind to mind the rods for you. The big problem of standard walkie talkies is the range most claim up to one mile but in reality its more lke half that distance. with proper CBs are a much better bet ! main CB in car and walkie talkie at venue. Useing a mobile phone is not a good idea mainly because there are few hotspots and its unlikely a venue would have any signal ! and the cost is very high makeing calls...
  22. It would be nice to have a list of syndicates in essex and hertfordshire. Berners hall Lily fisheries. Priors fishery rainham The mill essex syndicates Fyerning fisheries these are all essex ones.
  23. Etangs de breton ! within one hour or so if going from portsmouth ! we are paying £600 for two lakes with exclusive use all the lakes have cabins or portacabins prices varie from£550 to 600. the lakes are small four of which are paired ! others are single lakes and all are small under 4 acres or less. Two are runs waters carp to 42lbs and cats to 50lbs or so. one of the lakes is cats basically and up to 100lbs with large carp and sturgeon. i am fishing in peters pool a small lake (the smallest there) there are mainly largish carp there 10lbs+ to 42lbs. Offcourse yu need to buy food and the usual travelling expences. But all in all its great value.. especially if there is 3/4 of yu in the double lakes. carp reports over the last 4 years have been quite impressive Poplars appears to be the best for sturgeon and peters pool for carp . you pay your money you take your choice
  24. think it works on pumping water into a heated tank then moveing the water through the pipes through a ventilation holes . there you have it warm water to stop the lake being frozen. But there is a problem you need a lot of these narrow pipes (plastic?) to cover a reasonable sized lake. say every 50 feet maybe and right across the width of the lake ! also the water has to be treated so it does not fur up the pipes(hard water area). and hey presto the lake never freezes. ( i bet you could have a bath there also. jacuzzi here we come) looks like april 1st has come early this year. sorry to say i think its great idea but flawed at the same time . then again i do not have the owners vision ,as this could take off and the start of many fishery owners doing the same thing. But at what cost to the angler?
  25. The lakes are quite popular all year round and i was chatting to the owner yesterday (strangely) and he told me he has fitted "hot water pipes" in the match lake and this year the pipes will be fitted to the other ! I thought that was more than a little stange why he should fit them in a fishery (mmm maybe he is putting fish in that lake, must not freeze up) But the lakes have one real problem "the noise" comeing from the 3 lane A12 ehich from what i hear can be deffening at night and offcourse the lights from the cars. On the plus point the fish are use to it. Shame about the anglers (you dont get much sleep there). Yes i gather the fish are good sizes but it does not offer anything that my local fishery doesnt offer. prices are resonable (see there website) . Its a question of you pay your money and take a chance. For me i would never fish there like birds green is another place i would not want to fish there either !
