  1. Sods law - I just got a news letter from Bury Hill and it would seem the Old Lake has come alive with large number of twenties being banked, check out their website for more details mate.
  2. Sounds like you fished the Old Lake, it's the same as anywhere, you just have to find them, there's plenty there. I've not fished it for a while but fishing to the island used to be pretty good. Alternatively try Bond or Milton Lakes, a little easier to get into fish, not as big but more of them. If your looking for a learning experince, stick with the Old Lake, if your looking to bag up, Bond or Milton.
  3. All the news letters I've been getting from their web site say the thirties are all coming from Temple lake which is a syndicate. But I've not received anything for a few weeks now, cant be of much help about the last few weeks I'm afraid. I'm sure someone else will post soon.
  4. Go to www.google.co.uk Search for "les grands lacs de france" and you should see a "Translate this page" to the right of the link, click it. Or try here : http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://scolinmaire.free.fr/saucissons91/lacs.php&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dles%2Bgrands%2Blacs%2Bde%2Bfrance%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG
  5. Why does this place get special treatment, wont be the last time and certainly is the not the first : Would it have been ok if it was in the thread below ? http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=25825
  6. Not for the first time, I see "I only use D-Rigs for my pop ups". Any reason why you would not use them for bottom baits ?
  7. I only use 2 methods with pellets. 1) Drill the pellet and use a standard hair rig (or buy pre-drilled pellets) 2) A pellet band on the back side of the hook. Both work for me.
  8. I have to say the thought had crossed my mind and made me smile considerably, but at 280 Euros a little too much for a laugh. I had visions of hiding it away in the bivvy lol.
  9. You could do worse than Lac Le Pins :- www.carpanglersparadise.com Heard nothing but good reports, my mate is out there next week and he's booking again for next year.
  10. You may be disappointed if you thought the title a little racy. I just got back from a 5 day trip to Mrs TCB's nephew in France and I'd like to share a couple of things. Firstly, I did manage to get a line wet, but blanked, oh well not the first, certainly wont be the last ... but if you read on you may not be surprised I blanked. We did not have a lot of time, only an afternoon, we went to a smallish lake which was very local to our location, paid our 5 Euro's, made our way to the lake and came upon a notice board, apparently the notice went along the lines of :- The lake was closed during the month of March, at which time 900 kilos of fish were stocked, April the 1st (no joke) the lake opens at a daily rate of 20 Euro's per day. Nothing too strange so far ... Except, what you catch you "take away", literally. Again, not uncommon, except they stock not only trout but all manner of silver fish, including some pretty big carp, which are caught and taken for the table. Never heard of this before, but it might explain a) Why the ticket was only 5 Euro's and b) The blank afternoon. Secondly, I paid a visit to a tackle shop, quite a big shop, sitting on a shelf was what I can only describe as 24 inches of clear 25mm (approx) clear plastic tube mounted on a tripod, with a "black box" on the rear end of the tube, along with a couple of what appeared to be small pipes attached at various points of the black box. I really wish I had taken a snap and paid more attention because I think it was for shooting boilies long range, it was 280 Euros and I can only think it used some type of compressed gas canister to power the contraption. Something similar to a paint ball gun I suspect but mounted on a tripod and considerably heavier in manufacture. If it works and I've no reason to think otherwise it must be extremely accurate. Has anyone else seen anything like it ? Lastly, now I've bored you all to tears, I picked up a few kilos of a bait I've not seen used here before, nothing found in the forum search either, I'll let you know what it is and how it works out, when I've checked it's OK to use. Cheers Mark
  11. Nice one. Thanks guys. Mark
  12. I am off to Poitiers in France next week, a social visit to Mrs TCB's nephew. He has mentioned there are a few lakes around if we want to go fishing. I'm hoping to fit a couple of day/half day sessions in. Can anyone tell me how the licensing works over there, do I need to get something before I go etc etc . Cheers Mark
  13. That's why I switched too. still carry a tub of shot with me though (Great for the catapult when Jakes playing with you line's ) I'd have thought bivvy pegs and a mallet would have done a better job
  14. Spot on mate, I use them for the very same reason, absolutely no line damage and you can reuse them time and time again.
  15. I am guesting on a lake this weekend and my "mentor" has decided we are starting off fishing the method. Never having fished the method I am very much looking forward to it. I then started thinking that if successful I would give it a try on my "regular" haunts, only to find they are banned on the couple of commercials I use. I have 2 questions. 1) Does anyone know why they should incur a ban ? 2) Is there that much difference in presentation/camouflage if I were to use a Bolt Rig with a PVA bag of goodies, as opposed to a method feeder ? I see both set ups as having the possibility of being very similar and getting around the ban. Cheers Mark
