Good mate of mine has been fishing the first one for the last 18 months (the one you cannot see from the roads) he's been carping for some 40 years, had his first take in all that time last week and got snagged, he's not happy, it ain't easy that I know for sure. No idea about the other one, but I have seen the odd angler sitting on the bank. I'll see what else I can find out and get back to you with more info.

Quite so. I agree entirely. In fact - that's my point. I would suggest, as time goes on, My Brown's works will slowly drift out of print and be found only in second hand book stalls; whereas Tolstoy will remain "regarded as among the greatest of European novelists". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Tolstoy But then he is not everyone's cup of tea, I understand that. The reason I posted on this thread was that Mr Dan Brown was getting good press when he very clearly does not deserve it. But if you won't take my word for it, here is Stephen Fry (who does write well): "complete loose stool-water" and "[censored] (backside) gravy of the worst kind." And here is Stephen King (not quite so good as the previous Stephen): Stephen King put Dan Brown's work and "Jokes for the John" on the same level, calling such literature the "intellectual equivalent of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese." Of course everyone is entitled to their own likes and opinions, but you really should believe me when I say that Dan Brown's work is poor; even if you enjoy it. I am only a novice when it comes to carp fishing, but I know considerably more about literature. Well, there's 3 people who dont appreciate Dan Brown. There was a lot of hype about The Da Vinci Code and I suspect quite a few people purchased it and did not enjoy it. However, the millions who then went on to purchase Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress and then Deception Point clearly thought otherwise. I also suspect a large number of those millions would think pretty much the same of Stephen Fry as he does about Dan Brown. How you can say his success is undeserved I just dont know. Dan Brown clearly knows what people want and gives it to them. As I've said before, each to their own. However, I would not start slating someone just because I dont enjoy their work.

Whatever floats your boat mate. Personally I dont get a lot of time to read but when I do I dont want to have to think too much about it. Given the 2 choices of styles above, I'll take the first. Profound beauty ? .... Possibly to some ... to me ... poncy drivel and a headache in the making.

I had this very same problem when I first attempted to tie it. I was trying to make the loop no bigger than 3-4mm. When I realised that the loop only had to be slightly smaller than the bait you are using it was a piece of cake. Getting pretty good at it now too, I'm down to 28mm boilies

I thoroughly enjoyed all of Dan Browns books and thought both Digital Fortress and Deception Point were both as good if not better than the previous two. I suspect Angels and Demons, the film, will fall short of the book, as did the Da Vinci Code, although I usually find most films do. Looking forward to seeing the film nonetheless.

Calling it a lake is a little strong, big pond maybe. I've been going to the boot sale there for the last few weeks, keeping an eye on it's progress. They opened last week I think and looks like they've done a pretty good job of tidying it up. The swims look well put together, unfortunately there are twice as many as there should be. there can only be 4ft between them on one bank. Last Sunday there were about 8 anglers on it, one bivvied up, saw a young lad pull out a mirror of about 1lb. Having only been open for such a short time it's far too early to tell how it is going to fish or realise what has been stocked. To be honest I quite fancy the lake on the other side of the office, check it out next time you are there.

Gaz, thanks for the constructive comment, appreciate it. As for the rest of them, pretty much patronising to say the least, glad I counted a darn sight more than 10 or I'd have been banned already. Yes, so I got it wrong .... big deal, isn't that what this place is supposed to be for .. learning ? God only knows what this is supposed to mean: "As for a club/syn that requires you to cast further,what a load of cods,or should that be dead cods" Maybe continue tomorrow if I can still log in.

Steady on fellas, I asked a question .... I thought that was the idea of forums. Still waiting for membership so no need for distance yet, so no, the rig was never used. If only I had tine to read every thread .... I wrongly assumed by using a hooklink that was a significantly lower BS than the rest that the hooklink would be the first to give and missed the rest. Ok, replacing the superglue, removing the small weight and swivel no big deal, how do you prevent the rig tubing running up the line and ending up being tethered to a fish.

In the relatively short time I have been carp fishing I have more often than not used running rigs or fixed with safety clip at short distances or margins. I am waiting for my membership to come through to club that reqires me to fish at further distancies and I've been playing around with helicopter rigs. I started with an Osprey tactical photo-chromic kit: Problem #1 - I found the clear rubber beads supplied impossible to thread over the rig tube so I found some clear plastic beads, the hole in the bead was a little too big, to get around this I used superglue to hold them in place, with a piece of shrink tubing in between them (I found it helped with adhesion). Problem #2 - How are you supposed to prevent the rig tubing from sliding up the line to the swivel ? I am currently using those fox lead thingies (lol) with the rubber insert. I'm quite pleased with the result and accompanied with the Osprey clear lead I am hoping for pretty good camoflage on the lake bed. Does anyone have any comments about the "problems" I am having ? If indeed they are problems ?

I took Mrs TCB last year, staying in Rowan. Had a great time, the lodge was superb. The restaurant in the evening was not our cup of tea but breakfast was excellent. Having said that I just looked at their menu and it looks like it's changed quite drastically for the better, it used to be what I would term as very rich, poncy and pretty expensive.
