I use to rig a piece of 3 or 4 inch tubing onto my snakebite hooklink and pull it over the swivel to restrict how far the hooklink can manouevre about when casting. It was effective.
-
The approach assumes that the carp is taking the bait from the direction of the hook. As stated the hookhold may be outside the carp's mouth. Nice to see you're thinking though.

Usally the same height as yourself. In your case 'Big Steve' that must be like 10 ft. Cant get over how big you are.

Maybe Fox are getting quite ironic in their merchandising in a bid to attract the dry humoured customer.

I use Snakebite for all my current fishing. Very high abrasion resistance. Brilliant for snag fishing, which is what I do.
-
Commendable attitude. Think I will stop using it. I dont think my rigs are death traps but it is not worth even a minimal risk.

Not really possible to prevent them getting in there mate. So leadcore should be banned? Is there not something we can do about it?
-
Does tubing prevent cut offs when fish take you into pads? That is when I use leadcore and over gravel bars too.
-
None of the above! You could actually have added this question to the other thread on leaders If I use a Shockleader for maximum distance casting I use either Amnesia or Drennan Greased Weasel. If I'm not using any then I try to fish as Slack a Line as possible, have tubing pinned down (if I'm using any), or get the Mainline down to the bottom. Just by fishing Running Leads with a Slack Line and possibly a Flying Back lead you can disguise the last of the line near the lead Would the fish not be able to feel the back lead when they pick up the bait. I am seriously considering a running lead setup with slack lines. What is your detection like on slack lines?

Hardly any. I rotate 3 of my club waters. Each very different with varying swims too. I am never sure what length or type of rig I use. It would usually be Snakebite or Amnesia but which length? Hair? Hook Pattern? Stiff Rig? Pop up? Zig? I tie as I go along personalising the rig to each situation.
-
Yeah but leadcore leaders are also thicker and heavier, fish can easily spook off them. A back lead may be all that is required. I like the idea of flourocarbon leaders though.

I use a bubble float as part of my surface outfit.

Some nice fish in those photos but I think holidaymakers would want larger fish. I love catching fish of all sizes but if paying to go abroad I would want a very good chance of a 30 or even a 40.

Yeah used that too. I do rate maggots but constantly bleeps from small stuff does my head in.
-
I have used it in the past. Can work out quite pricey with glue and maggot use. It is also a long process to set up. However, I like using it when things get quite hard just to try and be different.

Barden is a big lake. I suggest you do your homework.

I fish snaggy waters and find Snakebite to be perfect for this. I know it is thick so if you are fishing gin clear water you may wish to use something else. I like the fact you can peel it back and use it for pop ups.
-
Would a clear hook be safe to have on the market? I could picture some nasty accidents occurring.
-
I personally would use a different hooklink for a silt and gravel fishing. I never put them in the same category. Silt hides your rig once the disturbance settles where as gravel doesnt.

I'm not sure it does prevent Cut-offs on Bars. I think in some cases it actually increases the risks as the line is lower in the water. As for near snags, I view it as a complete NO NO! (As I have probably stated on some of the other threads) I have been debating its use at the moment and I had a Smash up with Leadcore on Thursday last week. The Leadcore was totally worn through on a Lily Root that had broken from the Main Patch and was embedded in the Lake Bed. Yet the Mono as it was not textured but smooth was wearing and rubbing over the Root. The Lead core was cutting and being worn. I know that the Lead was able to break free on the Running set-up, as I reeled in about a metre of Leadcore that had been rubbed through and the Running Lead Ring was not attached to the line. So somewhere in the Lake the most the Carp is dragging around is a 15cm hooklink and a swivel with 5cms of Leadcore, from just above the splice I use to get cut offs in the lillies caused by the roots I presume. This was on mono. I changed to braid for lower stretch and thinner diameter to cut through pads. Unfortunately, I was still suffering cut offs and lost fish. I changed to the leadcore setup and this prevented cut offs and I have not had the problem ever since. I also used leadcore on my other water which has plenty of shelves and I have have not had a cut off yet. But I am struggling on that lake so am taking the leadcore off and lightening my entire setup. The lake is not silty so does not have the camouflage effect and I believe the leader has been sticking out like a sore thumb. I am using ESP leadcore, perhaps your brand is of lower quality? I have faith in leadcore getting the job done for me and that my rigs are safe. However, this knowledge of safety must be adopted by other anglers.

Yeah it is a tackle box product. They also do mighty ming boilies and pellets. I bought a bag of the boilies and caught nothing but that does not mean you wont. Brilliant tackle shop though and fortunately on top of where I live.
-
Quite right. Leadcore should be used in conjunction with a chod or helicoper or at wort a running lead system. Nobody can deny the benefits of leadcore. It prevents cut offs on bars and snags and does pin down nicely. But safety is paramount to be honest.

Silkworm would be my pick.
