  1. Do you mean clear when you say translucent ? Perhaps I need a dictionary. Anyway, thats where I got clear stuff from but it was a while back. Sold in metre lengths. Is this any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rig-Tubing-Heat-Shrink-in-various-colours-sizes-in-50mm-lengths-/201455971703?var=&hash=item2ee7b62d77:m:mjrvimmOd4C8Ij0ls2WXxoA
  2. If it was only stalking then a centrepin would do the job nicely. just watch your hands when the fish takes off. Youngs are an English company..... Otherwise a nice little Shimano would be fine. Do you have a budget in pounds we could work on for you?
  3. Space permitting, and it is a big space how about the JRC Quad Continental? They're a hotel in green but your budget will have to decide properly.
  4. So I've ordered two Foxes M+ from angling direct today for under £50,thanks all for responding.
  5. QD just means less turns of the spool cap from loose to locked up. It's not really necessary as you can just use a standard spool and do the same but marketing will have you think otherwise. Both my Tournament model reels had standard drag and it made zero difference. Baitrunners are separate drags that allow freespool, like as used in sea fishing multipliers. As the fish roars off with the bait you put the reel into normal mode by turning the handle or flicking the lever and away you go. Have a play in the shop to get the feel of things.
  6. I went from big pits (Daiwa 5&6000t,Shimano Ultegras,Penn back to latest baitrunner. I don't like baitrunner spools, quick drag was easy but I like the baitrunner lever and the drag stays exactly the same.
  7. Why not get Big pit baitrunners and solve your issues?. Big casting, thick line will need bigger spools.
  8. I'm after a pair of decent little alarms for my local club waters. I don't wish to spend over £50 for a pair, don't need remotes but if it's included in won't mind. I saw a Saber tackle set of 3 with a wireless remote for this amount. Any feedback? Or any other suggestions? Cheers all.
  9. I've fished there on a couple of occasions, it's crayfish city and boilies are banned. Terry H did an Angling Times article where I recognised the venue which was unnamed. It's an old chalk pit . I might still have the article. He claimed to be using pop ups, naughty boy. It's very sheltered due to the high chalk cliff at one end and the trees surrounding it. There's some nice roach there too. I don't remember catching anything but crays but it was 15 years or so back.
  10. And that goes back to the original question, why 50mm eyes? It's a fad, nothing more than that. I've got original LC's, big,fat spool and cast fine with 40mm on my older Armalite SP's. I bet any money anyone less than a tournaments caster won't make a beans worth of difference.
  11. Just talk to Kevin Baines (Anglers Workshop) and see what he has to say. He does build rods too, you don't see many second hand, does that say something? He's also recommended by Steve Harrison.
  12. Now I'm confused. Ok, soap and rocks it is.
  13. I can (just about) recall the release of the original Biomaster and Ultegra surf reels on the UK market. White body Biomaster and sort of pinky/silvery body Ultegra. IIRC these had the same width spools as today and there were no 50mm rings then. This was mid to late 90's. The spools did get deeper along the way mind. Saying that, I haven't used 50mm rings. I asked for Fuji K series on my new rods, the design negates the need to go mahoosive on the ring side
  14. FWIW I think 50mm rings are a fad. We managed perfectly well in the age of big pit reels with 40mm. Shimano,Daiwa etc, the spool widths haven't got bigger, it's the tackle industry giving it's sales a boost by marketing these as a "must have". Only a tournament caster could possibly utilise them. JMHO
  15. Aah, ok cheers. Back to gumtree it is.
  16. It's an excellent read, the red horde is my favourite chapter.

    Thicky's book

The bloke is a nice guy and a mighty talented angler but he can't write an interesting book aside from the photographs of his captures. It's possibly sacrosanct to say this but it's what I feel. I've read both.No offence meant to Micky.
  18. Is there no section to offload kit here?
  19. So it's basically an easy to tie/change hook D rig?
