  1. I used to go but fell out with them over their disorganised attitude. Well worth a trip down but don't bet that the swim you booked will be empty, their organisational skills leave a lot to be desired!
  2. Mesters and manton at Scunny, 30mins away from Donny.
  3. Looks like he's just trying to avoid the standard replies to Cromwell threads. The carp were stocked from abroad, legally. From Croatia I think. Only fished it once, on the NCFF social ages ago. Don't remember too much about it as we were all muntered for the weekend! I do remember it was a very nice place to be and would probably fish well if you applied yourself to it. Not cheap though.
  4. Isn't Winney Hill a syndicate? Try CALPAC Epsom Common Stew Pond for a few fish in the daytime, wouldn't night it myself tho, too many dodgy characters! The Tahmes isn't a million miles away, may be worth searching to find any areas where you can get out of the way and nite it. Papercourt down near Guildford on the CEMEX tisket?
  5. Any particular bit of Yorkshire? It's a big county!
  6. I'd never go back either. Filthy hole run by shysters when I went. 3am and I'd just had a run on the farm lake, I look across the lake and there's a 4X4 with a large wtaer container on the back pulled up. The driver jumps out and starts using a match landing net to scoop fish out of the container and drop them into the lake. Very odd, most places publicise their stocking policy so why do it at 3am if it's not dodgy? All the fish i caught were injured in some way, scales missing, open sores, fungal infections etc etc. The litter at the place was a joke. So many dodgy characters wandering round at all hours, I even remember a local brass coming round "offering" services. Pikey camp next door. Then the final nail in the coffin was the dumping of dead fish into teh river and spreading disease all along the valley. It was a while ago that I went but if that's how it was being run then the new owners (I heard it was taken over) have too much of an uphill climb to attract me back.
  7. I'd be interested to know how you get on, not far from work so a trip may be in order.
  8. Did an overnight there a couple of years ago. It's set up as a noddy/match water. Popular with local carpers though but i didn't particularly like it. Lots of small fish (2-5lbs) and tench/bream/ide which wiped out any baited areas/presentation. Meant to be some bigger fish there but not easy to get through the smaller ones to get to them. Tried bigger baits but still kept hitting smaller fish etc. Very peaceful but wide open with very few bivvy pegs. I prefer larger waters with trees etc.
  9. I've been thinking about this, do you really want to do this? It's a hike and a half for both of you to the middle of the country. Neither of you will be able to pre bait or keep bait trickling in with any regularity, the fuel costs will be prohibitive, the environmental impact is gonna hurt too. I did the trip from Scunny to Stamford, it took nearly 2hours evrey time, it affected my fishing, I couldn't concentrate on a baiting campaign etc. I'm sure you and your brother are close and I can understand why you want to fish together. Why not look for a lake that's near one of you? F'rinstance, near London you could join a Colne Valley syndi etc or find a syndi near Scarborough or in North Yorks and both join that. That way there will be one of you near the lake all the time, the local angler can carry on putting bait in, keeping in touch with what is happening, maybe getting down for the odd overnighter. Then the distant angler can come up/down accordingly. Work it right and you can leave some gear (rods, end tackle and alarms etc) with the local angler, get a double bivvy so you don't have to carry any gear up and down the country. Maybe look at using the train if it's just one person travelling? It makes more sense to me to do it that way.
  10. I did hear that but I hope they didn't, it's not a big lake and IMHO would be better suited as growing on water before moving the fish on to the old syndi, nig and L shpaed lakes. Even with a few bigger fish, and the complex common record was in there when I fished it, I didn't spend any time on the New Lake, much preferred the Big lake.
  11. I never bothered with the New Lake, it didn't appeal compared to the huuuuuge lake just 20yards away!
  12. Depends on how you see "difficult". For me it's low stocking density + large water + lots of natural food + weed + other species. The new lake has a reputation for being difficult as the fish are very clued up. It's horses for courses. I like big lakes with trees and cover in enclosed swims, that's the big lake. The New lake is small and exposed.
  13. It is, make a note in your diary for when the website will have the application forms on and get one ASAP and send it in, you've dipped for this year but it really is worth trying next year. Even better get to know someone who fishes there as those who are recommended get preference. It's a lovely set of lakes with enough waters to keep you busy for years, from match type with a few small carp in to an inland sea with around 1.5 fish an acre, 6foot of weed in 5ft of water! A real challenge. If I lived a bit nearer I'd be back on like a shot and never leave! I fished 1 season on the Big lake (the hardest one) for 4fish, each was a PB in its own right.
  14. Bainton just outside Stamford but the applications are only open for a week every year. http://www.baintonfisheries.co.uk/join_sold.htm
  15. There's a lake at catterick, can't remember its name, I'll have a look, meant to be OK.
  16. Nope, never fished it but plenty have so there will be info available from someone sooner or later.
  17. Fairview nr Selby. Three Lakes at Selby. Raker Lakes nr York
  18. What are you after exactly? I know 2 syndis that may be suitable? 1 has fish to 36lb, 30+ acres, average fish over 20lb, only a few tench, no bream. Access to a second lake with fish to just under 40lb on a Mon-Fri rotation. £300 a year or so. 2nd has fish to just over 230, lots of rudd and tench, 19 acres, in woodland, very secure, lovely lake. Last i heard it was around £300 too. PM if you want more details
  19. Why not a syndi? Plenty of good ones over this way (North Lincs). Try this place: http://www.ashfieldangling.com/ Club water just off the A1, meant to be a bit of an up and coming club without the usual anti carp rules.
