  1. A very novice question with the adjustable zig as never used it I have all the gear to set it up and from what I can tell it works on the exact same basis as a marker float where by I can just let out a foot or so as and when it want to vary the depth
  2. What size was it? Saw online it said about 7 acres but can't always be too sure also the swims, are the proper swims with chippings and what not or or muddy banks? Any other info on your little walk around would be great as emailed the owners but no reply
  3. Any more info would be great, shame the link is dead
  4. They use dwarfs as they've got smaller hands, plus it keeps them in work between January and November when they're not in panto I've also heard on the grape vine about a new bait coming out that is odourless, completely weightless and 100% invisible and a bargain at £44.99 per kilo. According to my sources they say that this new revolutionary bait will bring carp fishing to dizzy new heights, despite no one actually catching on it yet apparently it has the potential to out smart even the wariest of carp who shy aware from 'visible' baits Here is a sneak preview for all you eager beavers of what you should be baiting up with in 2012 And now for how it looks on a rig I dare anybody to tell me how they think this could fail!
  5. Close but you've got it the way round wrong, its soak for 24hrs then boil for 30 minutes On a plus note, chow mein will work but you'll have to swap your hula hoop for a chod rigged malteser, most confectionery would fail here but luckily they're lighter than ordinary chocolate If you're in dire need of a beef & tomato I can get hold of 'Noodle Nige' who flogs them behind the bookies at knock off prices but they aint got any sauce sachets though
  6. Beef hula hoops over a bed of beef and tomato pot noodle TOP TIP - Save time by spodding the noodle out in the pot! If for some queer reason the hula hoops fail a zigged type 1 should work wonders BUT will be counteracted if you've eaten a beef and tomato pot noodle or a hula hoop in the past 24hrs Yours Mr T.Wat
  7. I went about 4 years ago, It's an okay place but I wouldn't rush back. Found the owners to be money grabbers and not very helpful, for instance we hired their bait boats that would often die after 2 trips and then they'd sometimes refuse to charge the battery back up for that day. On one occasion it died mid trip so was stranded in the lake it then took a lot of persuading for them to get their boat out to rescue it. We booked the whole of lake 4 which was apparently 8 acres in size yet I'd say more like 2 was only about 75yrds from one side to the other. To give you an idea of size I've just found some pics, ignore the messy middle one just arrived and wanted a rod out while setting up I had plenty of sturgeon that week but no carp from the middle swim, the majority being caught by me old man on the right hand swim tight to the hedge on blue hellraisers from CCmoore, he had them to 39lb 3oz. My dad's mate in the left had swim also had plenty of carp to around 33lb Apart from the sturgeon I did mange two of these the second beating my previous PB that only stood for 2 days
  8. Boring NEXT!!! You only catch because the carp are so curious to pop out and see what idiot is using such an out of date rig circa 2011 Everybody knows it's all about these newfangled rigs with tubing here and rig rings there, the odd bit of NASA designed fluorocarbon coated in space dust to give that extra weight yet at the same time weightless fell on the bottom all topped of with a bait created by the worlds top Michelin star chefs in secret underground bunkers
  9. I've always used a little stick or bag with both heli's and chods mainly for piece of mind than adding freebies With the way the hooklenth sits on the rig and has some free movement I'd have that nagging feeling in my mind that it's somehow spun back up on it's self and tangled
  10. When talking about rigs people often come to the conundrum of what hook should I be using when tying rigs? We have have short shank, long shank, curved shank, wide gape, in turned or out turned eyes, varying degrees in size and material to name a few But just what hook would best be used for what?
  11. mrdevon

    which rig?

Pressured water, quite shallow, unsure on what braidless rigs there are...... Id say float fish it and reap the rewards
  12. mrdevon

    which rig?

No but that other bloke your missus see's while you're out fishing does
  13. Because that would of been too easy or if I'm honest I didn't think of that
  14. I did try that but was still to thick
  15. I was trying to tie one last night using a 15lb stiff mono but when trying to do the D rig I found the hooks I were using just didn't have a big enough eye to pass is through twice unless moving up to a heavier, larger size which I felt were too bulky for the job So basically my question is, what's nice hook to use without it being OTT for the job and unsettling the natural buoyancy of say an 18mm pop up but an eye big enough for the D rig?
  16. I did a week there about two years ago my old man was in dead dog and has a decent weeks fishing, I was 2 swims to his left and had sod all for grub there is a decent biker cafe up around the corner, good prices and not too pricey They also offer a you a lift to your swim with all your gear and pop round daily to collect your rubbish
  17. I've used a weed rake to good effect on the river and had fish to reward my efforts. I only cleared an area about 4ft or so which had to done from the very awkward non-fishable far bank so I wasn't dragging the rake back through too much weed and decimating the place, then with the aid of a long telescopic pole and bait spoon baited up directly over the cleared spot. It may have been over kill the amount I put in for the size of the area but I wanted to ensure that the fish would be feeding and rooting around in the area long enough to finish off the clearing job I'd started I returned a couple times during the week and topped it up a little with very oily hemp, maize and a mixture of whole and crushed boilies but unfortunately due to the depth I wasn't able to see the bottom and check how the baited area was being responded too but a quick feel with a feature finding lead filled my with confidence that all was going well But this is were the annoying part came in. As I'd cleared the spot from the far side and knew from there exactly where the it was I had no choice but to leave the marker in, walk about 20 mins up the river over the bridge and back down the opposite side, cast another marker out to the same spot (which did take a few attempts I must admit) then another trek back round to retrieve the original marker rod then back again to where I was going to be fishing. About an hour later the lines were marked, clipped up and I was finally fishing albeit knackered from all that walking I was oozing confidence and pleased with the effort I'd put in, now to reap the rewards Several hours past with the odd bleep now and again before the tell tell bleeps that I knew I had a bream on and a few minutes later I had an 8lb'er or so on the bank. So on goes another small bag and out she goes again smack bang on the money and happy when I felt the lead land. 15 minutes passed and it was fag and coffee time when I noticed a few little still patches over the spot as it does when there's oil on the surface so I was sure there were fish in rooting around so off went the kettle, then the lovely sound of a single toner and the line coming off the reel. I struck and it went solid so knew I was into a better fish, after 'persuading' her she was betting coming in my direction and not that of the thick weed and snags I soon had a lovely, dark common in the net that went 16lb 4oz. I happily slipped her back and chuffed with my catch the kettle was back on! I did have a few more fish from the spot during the session but nothing of any notable size but that didn't matter I'd proved to myself that all my efforts and planning had paid dividends and maybe I was getting good at this carp fishing lark
  18. Both CC and M33ta made a valid point about baiting up some clear spots and keeping an eye on them, but before doing so and possibly wasting your time and bait be aware of the water foul on the lake as they'll be just as pleased with a free meal once you're gone

  20. Unless you're fishing a private lake, the sea or estuary then theres no such thing really as free fishing. Most rivers and canals are owned by the local angling associations that will charge you between £30-£50 for a years ticket which is great vale for money given the mileage of water you have access too. There will be stretches of the river that owned privately so fish these at your peril, especially those on farmland where some farmers will happily let you know the have a big 'ol shot gun as they move you on If you do wanna fish for 'free' then travel light and don't take your best gear in case you need to down tools and hot foot it, after all some people get a bit touchy when you're poaching their salmon beats* *Carp.com does not condone poaching albeit good fun
  21. Not the theme tune but the song from this episode which gets repeated all the ruddy time as they have it on Sky Plus "Not birdy, birdy, woof, woof!"
  22. With pop ups I always fish them on a sliding ring attached to a loop of stiff braid pushed through the air then looped back over the hook point causing a nice curve for it to move freely across and had numerous fish on it but the name of the rig escapes me
