  1. lol, we did a 24hour on the serpentine last bank holiday, and he charged us 20 each, which is not that bad really. John was in a surprisingly good mood! Sounds just like him trying to squeeze a few more quid out of the members, typically short term money grabbing and not thinking about next years renewal fees. He must be out of pocket since changing it to members and now he's trying to make up for it. Its a bit of a shame really, because in the right hands with the right investment, clifton could be a fantastic venue in just a few years, for all anglers not just carpers. Has anyone ever fished the Horseshoe? Totally different type of place to Beedle's though Kev, it is an out and out runs water really - have you ever fished it? Beedles is definatly a good few steps up the ladder, but got to say I love it there, despite the fact Ive only ever had 1 tench out
  2. a small stick of powder with the hook buried in can stop the masking and help against tangles on the way down, plus give you some extra attractor if you need it. I agree with kev about the putty, i tend to always use a decent blob or a split shot, even with a bottom bait and have noticed a lot more full takes rather than odd bleeps and tugs I used to get - which I did put down to blow outs. You just have to take it off everytime you put a new stick on. A ring on the shank can help hammer it home when the fish blows aswell, but the hook has to be turned and in a good position for it to work well, so Id personally still use the putty/shot. nothing is going to be 100%, theyr'e still going to get away with it in some pick ups, but youve got to respect the crafty devils for it
  3. same principal as dorset, but I sometimes use a small pellt band looped through the rig ring. with a hard pop up if you stretch the band through the pop up until you can just see it poking out the other side, theres no need for a bait stop. I wouldnt do this with a soft boilie, but then you prob wont be using them on a d rig.
  4. you can also use a polaris float for this, which automatically finds the depth, great for trying different spots without having to plumb and adjust the float.
  5. think there is a translation programme you can use, but if I were marketing to a foreign country I think I'd at least have the site available in their language too, espcially england/english!
  6. Well I heard from another angler at a 'match' type venue (Makins) where i was trying to winkle a few barbel out. Dont know what lake he was on about, so did a search on Google, and found a pdf at ibstock dot com. Thats where i saw the 2 lakes etc. Had a flash earth look, and saw the brick works with a bare lake and a bigger, well grown in place, so assume thats the old one with the older fish in. Think that might be the one you are on about welder. You know any more about the syndicate or stock? Was hoping somebody would tell me theres some big old commons in there! Dont know if the regulars have seen this yet (Courtz? Mr Branno? Mr Taylor?) Its probably either locked down in a syndicate if theres anything to speak of in there, or if its Virgin (wish wish), I rekon an approach to the owner for a carp.com syndicate might be on edit: was a bit slow there Courtz and Welder You thinkTruckers Holt might be one for the future Courtz? Sonds a nice size to grow on some fish. Is it weedy/silt/clay/gravel? I'd be interested in going after some of the twenties there - is it day ticket? nights allowed?
  7. couldnt find any details about this apart from googling and finding its Ibstock Angling Association water. Does anyone have any more info on this place? Might go and scope it out tomorrow. Somebody told me its done a 30, but found a PDF on same google search showing a new lake being dug and loads of small stockies going in. This pdf also said the orig lake was dug in the early 1830's. Apparantly theres also somewhere called Truckers Holt close to here, so dont know if they were getting mixed up about the 30. Any info on Truckers Holt also appreciated. And yes, I did try the search function before posting, but couldnt find anything
  8. they've been doing nights with limited numbers for quite a while now, since about October, I just rang the baliff and he said he'd let us fish a night, but we ended up going somewhere else in the end. I bet you wouldn't get much sleep though!
  9. Ok Hands up, went for a day at Clifton Mate who I fish with lives a stones throw and he was going so I thought I'd join him, but when we arrived there are new signs up saying members only (£120/year) except for bank holiday weekends?? Didnt know this was on the cards?? but apparantly the lovely gentelman who runs the place was having a big ruck with somebody at the gate the other day, and then these signs appear?? Does anyone know if this is the case?? Cant see why he's all of a sudden changed it over this argument at the gate, with that guys attitude I bet he gets into arguments with anglers day in day out, so dont know if its related. A few months ago he kicked a mate off who was just passing and dropped in to see us, saying he don't allow spectators as people were stealing the fish, so dont know if this might be the reason for the meber only thing. Anybody heard anything?
  10. Although I'd personally use alot shorter hooklength than that shown in the link above, 4" max. Just my personal preference though.
  11. PMSL I dont think so somehow you already put me right in another thread! scrap Groby off your list bunts!
  12. Does it count I buy most of my tackle and bait from the shop?? I'd love to get into that click! Is the reservoir the one out the back of Saddington Village? Had many a Sundy Roast in the Pub there admiring that lake! Only moved up here myself recently and haven't really settled on a decent water yet, although I've enjoyed some days at Hopsford. EDIT: Can I have some more info on Murphy's please, I'd be very interested.
  13. There's always phase 1 lake 1 at Makins if you want plenty of action, although the 20's and 30's they rekon are in there must be very shy (or they dont like my bait!). As somebody else has mentioned, Lakeside and Hopsford both hold decent fish, but can be quite tricky to get out. There's also a specimin pool at Groby fisheries, which is a very nice lake with some nice fish up to 30 odd, but again I've always found it hard going (4 blanks, and one night/day session with 1 fish between 4 of us). saying that, I have seen some very nice fish come out of there, and they have all been in very good condition. Fisheries.co.uk page has details of that and others. Clifton lakes on the A5 is similar to Makins, in that there are loads of fish and you'll almost be garunteed alot of action, but the bloke who runs it is a tit and the fish are not in very good condition. I've had just under 20's several times, and know some bigger fish have come out to mates who fish there. I've only recently moved up here too, well september last year and the fishing has been great. Even days at Makin's phase 2 lagoon lake are excellent fun, especially with all the barbel and tench in there.
