  1. Nothing like the mouth damage you get from a long shank hook MM mm mm my favorite As for matching all the components of our rig please for the love of god stop listening to the marketing guru Danny Fairbrass he doesn't have your fishing interest at heart just the stock price of Korda Lake beds are a vast array of colours so what exactly are you matching the colours to? Because 3 inches to the left or right of your spot can vary hugely. If anything use various couloured components to break up the silhouette
  2. I have had a look at the lake and wow. Its as stunning as it is big. Aswell as your dingy i think an echo sounder is a must not only to find the fish but to help map the bottom you should also really look into a gps system which will allow you to bait various areas and find them very accurately. Hemp and maize has to be the way forward its cheep enough to allow a lot of pre baiting. I wouls concentrate on areas of depth cahnge bars and shelves where warmer shallower areas hit colder deeper areas. Im very envious very very envious. was there an initial stocking? If so you should be able to find out as it was made in 85. Best of luck mate keep us all posted
  3. Can i just say what a great post this is. Posts like this are the reasons you come to these forums so let me chuck my 2 pence in. In the past i always stuck to 4-5 rigs for all my fishing but this season i have mixed things up a lot. The withy has been one of my best catchers also the hinged stiff rig has caught well to its a confidence thig as much as any thing I do think alot of the presentations that you see in mags are just there to fill pages and to an extent push certain products on us but i have learnt a lot from reading about them i understand rig mechanics much better for them. I now use tubing on most of my hook patterns to give the effect of bent hooks . The use of rings ad floss and the reasons behind its use etc etc but ultimately i wil stil always have more faith in in a single hook a piece of line and a swivele then a rig with 50 little pieces.
  4. ive never heard or tried the rig and cant say that in reading any of the posts would give me confidence to do so i as other people think it is an unnatural presentation i would also be worried about the hooking potental of the rig i do use them with corn or hemp but i would call it a stringer i know people use the term for rigs with strung boilies on pva string but ah well its quite diffrent putting 4 bits of corn or 8 bits of hemp to 3+ boilies
  5. The original withy is a bent hook rig and as such shouldnt be used but the modern take which is one that i use is a piece of shrink tubing with a curve steamed into it use a cork to put the curve ini ts a good presentation and works well i do recomend clear tubing or it can be a little crude
  6. both are pretty good i think lead aore just pips it but i tend to use berkley snide that stuff is the nuts give it a whirl if you havent already tried it
  7. I use super mantis and silkworm if i need a very fine presentation. i tend to only use fluro when fishing in weed
  8. The presentation will come more from the rig then the hook although it does have some effect i have to say i just love those raptor's
  9. Tubing is a great weapon in fishing. Clear tubing is excellent it acctually diffuses light while inthe water so it breaks your rig up. It is also very an important additon to improving the hooking capabilities of braid. Braid being as supple as it is can often cause the hook to kick over very slowly as fish take the bait in their mouths but by using tubing you can counter act this effect. The most used and one of the best is the line aliner where a small piece of tubing is threaded up the line and pulled through out of the side of the tubing as opposed to running straight through it, thisput the hook length and hair in a straight line and force the hook to kick round more quickly improving hooking potental. I have been using a rig this season a lot to great effect where a 1inch piece of tubing is threaded up the line and when steamed is bent at a sharp 90 degree angle this really makes the hook move and i think it has put more fish on the bank this year. In short what im tryin to say is play around with it you can create all sorts of presentations and as you learn more about rig mechanics you can really use tubing to massively improve your fishing success
  10. As kidda says, the spade end knot is good. I use it with zig rigs tie my hook to a spool of line, then i can transport it spooled up and easily cut it to the required length.
