  1. Alan, welcome to the forum, I hope that you enjoy our company. I wish you well in your search for suitable waters in your recently adopted homeground. I feel sure that, if you ask appropriate questions, you'll get suitable answers. The current year ticket for BAA is £30-00 and remains a bargain. Strange that you should mention Uckinghall, I'm determined to give the place(s) a go in the coming year. Best regards, Ian
  2. By playing fish lightly, I imagine that the fight last longer? IMHO this increases mouth damage and the chance of a braided hook length slicing their mouth. I have seen braid slice a carps mouth quite badly, the slice was right in the scissors, the braid in question was Drennan micro braid. This is one of the reasons I stepped away from braided hook lengths and onto Magic touch mono, although this doesn't suit every situation. Drennan Micro Braid is one of the worst for slicing as it is so thin in diameter, and very "rough" and abrasive to the touch. Now you know why I do my Garage tests so I won't use tackle that may damage fish. There was also another hooklink braid that I found dangerous to use as well from the Nash stable. Anyone who uses a Mainline Braid as a hooklink without checking what it can do deserves to have it wrapped tight around their anatomy and then played like a Carp So "Goodwill to all Men" never quite entered your mindset, Nick? I'm joking, as I'm sure you know I'm a fan of flourocarbon myself, Amnesia in particular. However, some of the coated braids that are meant for use as hooklinks are as safe as we could hope. I have a spool, in black, can't remember the brand and I'm certainly not going out to the garage at this time of night to find out, which I use to make silt rigs and it's benign. Feel free to wrap me up in it and play me like a carp, but could we wait for warmer weather, please? Ian
  3. And they have some cracking waters. Miles of canals and rivers and lots of stillwaters. Some of the lakes/pools can be nightfished. All for a yearly ticket of £30-00. Bargain? Oh yes! www.baa.uk.com Ian
  4. Hi cleggy, welcome to the forum. There is a member of this forum who will probably have the answers to your questions. He signs on as jemsue5 and is the font of all knowledge regarding fishing in your area. I don't suppose he'd mind if you were to PM him. His name is Jez and he's a thoroughly nice bloke. Tell him I sent you Ian
  5. Dave, I have absolutely no idea where this canal is but I'd suggest that you visit the tackle shop nearest to the water and ask if they know who holds the fishing rights. Try a Google search, first? Ian
  6. I've never fished there but was doing some work at Aston Martin just up the road earlier this year and went for a good look around the pools. What a cracking place, it's so quiet you can hear the silence. The write up in Fisheries co uk is excellent but, in my opinion, the place is even better than they say. I shall certainly be fishing there in the future. Ian
  7. My thinking exactly. The 240 volt supply to the pegs is a novelty, must get a bigger barrow......... Ian
  8. Ignore the SEARCH warnings. Go with an open mind and enjoy yourselves. The only caveat I'd add is keep all bait off the ground and securely stored during the night.....there are nocturnal creatures on there. Just don't take things too seriously. A tip. If you have the choice of pegs on Masters go for the one beside the small island, on the right when looking downhill. There's a ledge about 6ft down, fairly tight to the island where the better carp were caught when I was there. Enjoy. Ian
  9. Hi warby, not 71 miles? Only joking Shatterford is within range, I guess. It's your side of Kidderminster, on the Bridgenorth road and is a strange place in some respects, a series of lakes dug out of a steep hillside. Masters pool holds good carp and cats ...oh, and sturgeon, ugly, ugly things! It's also strange in that it used to be an animal and wildlife reserve and still holds llamas, scruffy black goats and ferocious geese. There's a small tackle shop and a poolside catering hut which does a very nice bacon and egg sarnie. I did a social on there a couple of years back and enjoyed it. Some didn't. Didn't like the geese, maybe? Ian
  10. And a lot of Carp with wind I always wondered why they bubbled so well Just thought, this could solve Del's problem finding fish in his new water. Spod out a few kilos of beans, soon see where the are then Love it! Ian
  11. I started this thread two and a half years ago and have used baked beans in method mix many times since. I can't claim that they've revolutionised my fishing but usually catch well on the method. Might be the beans, might not. Every day's a schoolday Ian
  12. Nicely moderated, stoogi. Not a GRRRR, a hold your breath and count to ten or a BLOCKED in sight. Proper job. Ian
  13. Hi Richie, welcome to this cracking forum. I see that you're happy to travel out a bit and would suggest that you try Willesley Lake, on the outskirts of Ashby de la Zouch. Night fishing is allowed and, while it doesn't hold 40's, there are some very nice fish in there. Midweek is best as it can get busy. It's a very pretty place with recently opened toilet/shower block. Not too many rules, common sense, really. Check it out on www.Fisheries.co.uk Enjoy! Ian
  14. Hams Hall syndicate members are leaving in droves as many of the fish now live in the adjacent River Blythe following last years floods. They can't give their 300 sovs tickets away. The Dingle has a syndicate of sorts. You have to be a member if you wish to night it. It's £75-00 for 3 months but anyone can day-ticket there. blytthe waters, known to most as Blythe Waters, is owned by British Waterways and has no syndicate or night fishing. Barston has no syndicate, allows night fishing but is plagued by matches. I rather like Grounds Farm but will reserve my judgement until I know about syndication. Ian
  15. Grounds Farm fishery is off Grove Lane, Wishaw and Joe is correct that Grove Lane is accessed from the road which passes the entrance to the Belfry. The aerial view supplied by Paul only shows one of the pools, there's another further along the entrance track and over a field, on the right. As well as another, which has been off limits for a few years. I've had good fish from this other pool and on one occasion got well smashed up while using proper heavy carp tackle and line...which leads me to believe that there is at least one very large fish in there. I didn't know that they'd syndicated one (or both?) of the available pools. Maybe it's the one that's been unavailable? I live quite near to the fishery so will have a drive over there and ask the question. Will take my rods, maybe. Ian
  16. I had a walk around there on Thursday. The pool in the 5th photo is by far the most attractive, being surrounded on three sides by woodland. I agree with Brian, float fishing is probably the way to go. A guy I spoke to had just caught a very large roach and was grinning broadly! I saw several good size carp cruising the margins, especially beside the reed beds, of which there are several. It's a nice little pool, I shall take my rods next time I'm in the area. Ian
  17. So do I. It's a confidence thing. Ian
  18. I had the same thought. The pool in the 5th photo looks bang on. The pool in the 1st photo seems to be very very long and narrow. Ian
  19. Don't believe a word they tell you. PM sent. Ian Ian, would you be so kind as to send me the PM too, please? No problem, Guy. Ian
  20. Don't believe a word they tell you. PM sent. Ian
  21. You may have noted that, as promised, I refrained from comment. Cut and paste is to be commended. Ian
  22. Obviously the result of a poked eye....be warned! Ian LOL!
  23. You'll struggle to, with your eye poked. Ian
  24. I'm pleased that I'm not the only person baffled by the regs. By the way, should we ever meet up..expect a poke in the eye for your cheek.... Ian
