Where to fish near Stevenage

Hello all. Im new to carping and im looking for good venues around Stevenage, Herts anyone got any suggestions. Cheers.

h&b is a club worth looking at , couple of pits about 15mins drive away one heavily stocked one not so . good chance of a fish up there . you have stanbrough down the road (not my cup of tea) also verulam have a few waters not to far from the nage , good club with lots on offer .

 

few more warters bit further away , also fairlands should be up and running again soon .

i live in welwyn garden and am looking for a new lake,want a chance of a 30 or higher and a new lake challenge

Hello markie

I'm not a fan of stanborough,saturdays the lake is used for boating. I've also heard the 2 best swims are now pole fishing only.

Also no night fishing allowed.

The hyde will get you a good size carp or 2 but there is no harm trying both lakes,everybody has their own opinions.

sorry lads hitchin and biggleswade angling club , got a couple a few decent waters . a couple that should be up your street .

 

a few other clubs in the area as well with alsorts of waters .

just spotted the her indoors comment so i guess you have a car , try Luton another good club about 40min drive for you to beckerings or up the a1 to north house 3/4 30+ carp in there with a good head of back up fish as well . sound bailiff up there who will put you on the right track . Luton also has the canal brilliant fishery bit of a treck but worth it , if you fish it this time of year fish and hour a spot then move untill you catch or bait 6/7 spots a few times then fish them on the same principle , the chance of a 20/30 or if you are lucky maybe bigger . once the water has a bit of warmth about it they move more in there and you can sit it out and wait for them .

I'd agree - Stanborough isn't everyone's cup of tea. Manor Farm isn't a bad day ticket venue - quite like it there. Verulam's a good club with some nice waters and won't break the bank.

yes howell hyde is pay on bank,£6 a rod 2 rod max £4.50 per rod kids.

dawn till dusk although its the same price whether you fish full or half day!!!!

your suppose to prebook a night and its £15 plus your £6 per rod for the days either side if you stay on. eg fish sat all day £12 sat night £15 sun all day £12 = £39 adds up over a season so not the cheapest of day ticket venues but nearly a sure bet for a catch.

ive been helping out my brother in laws,only started fishing last year and have all caught high doubles and one had a 21lb,good for the confidence when starting out to catch a few.

Apparently there is a gravel bar running between 2 of the islands (far one and middle one). Not sure how true this rumor is as I haven't looked for it myself. One things for sure is that the fish do seem to like it between them islands.

yes there is a gravel bar but its not as big as everybody thinks but its there,there is a couple of features there,islands,gravel bar and shelves

water levels have been up and down recently

the wife got me a new bivvy for xmas and a new bedchair and porter is on the way next month so really looking forward to getting to the lake again.

Weston between baldock and stevenage, ive had a look on google earth and there are two small lakes. A neighbour mentioned them he other day but im unable to find anything about them.
