6am is not early enough,ive driven past on way to another lake at 4am and people are already there.

Hi All Im doing a day and night at Pixies Mere next Saturday with my brother in law, neither of us have fished here before. Just after some info on how its fishing,best baits and best swims at the moment. im sure some of the best swims will be taken although we are prepared to get there early and wait for the gates to be opened. What size carp are in there? Sorry if it seems like a lot of questions,first time out this year and hoping for a good session. Also after a club to join,have been looking at verulam and letchworth but is a season ticket on Pixies worth the money. Thanks in advance Slatts

Hi holwell hyde is day ticket dawn till dusk, ive been twice in the last week and its not fishing to great,still cold nights and frost in mornings and lake hasnt woken up yet if you know what i mean. regarding "will's" comments, i totally agree with the place needs a good tidy up and sort out, yes it is all about money down there which is a great shame. the fish have been badly treated in the past but there isnt really any kids going there now, used to get mobbed at weekends and school holidays,ive been down there on a sunday and could still get a swim at 8.30am. we are not all stupid fisherman down there and dont all have a syndicate to go to,ive spent plenty of my time cleaning up my swim and picking up other peoples rubbish but i do that at stanborough aswell,every lake has its idiots and the hyde has had a few of those in the past but its getting better as people seem to be trying and there is somebody cleaning up somedays. there is a portaloo but some idiots have tipped it over which probably was the people that dumped a load of rubbish there that probably have nothing to do with fishing. the lake did have a couple of kills year before last and its not as much of a runs water as it was. have not heard of anything over 22.8 coming out and ive only seen a 21lb common come out. plenty of high doubles though. the waters levels there are normal for the lake now. hope this helps.

Hello Just been put onto the lakes by a friend, im after my first 30lb and ive seen the website and there are some stunning fish caught. what lake are they from, im hopefully going to join this june, im told its £150 but what lakes does this cover. thanks in advance for any info. slatts

Hello mate I didn't do a night but did 8pm to midnight and had 4 and lost 2. I was the only person on the lake but have popped down a couple of ti£es for a awalk around and people are catching. Don't know if anything big has come out,all mine was under 10lb Let us know how you got on if you go

I went down there a couple of weeks ago and the levels are nearly back to normal although it wasn't fishing that great but they was coming out. I'm hoping to do the night one night this week so I'll let you know how it went

Hello mate i used to fish the hyde,think we've spoke about it before. ive just started fishing stanborough lakes due to getting totally fed of going to the hyde and getting chavs shouting and casting into my swim etc oh and fish so badly damaged they probably wont be able to eat soon. stanborough has been good to me on the 2 times ive fished it lately,6 carp from 11lb to 18lb one day and 6 carp 12lb-17lb the other time, nice fish and a good fight. nice swims and a generally nice place to fish,i dont know about any features although they have some floating cages with weed growing in them down the bottom of the lake which is where i caught my fish from.

it was a blanker for us today,only 2 carp came out all day and a couple of bream. very quiet there,see a couple show but that was it. hopefully next time

Cheers for the info mate. Just got down the hyde and am fishing the platform in far corner. Will let you know how it goes. Was much coming out yesterday?? The water levels are very high,I stopped fishing here in november,lake just came to a stop. Hope its starting again although I'm only here till june then off to a club

thanks lads a 30 is something im after but as my pb is 21lb 8oz anything over that is great. ive heard lake 1 is small but loads of swims but i was thinking about lake 2 or 3,thats where the bigger carp are so ive been told. i only started fishing again last august due to my younger brother in laws taking it up and they needed some help,got me right back into it. my local lake is a runs water,great for them to learn but i want something new,they will come with me so a lake with a good head of carp,any size with some high 20's and the odd 30 for me would be great,doesnt have to be poppy hills,any ideas around hertfordshire or beds is ok. thanks in advance

hi all im new to the site so its a newbie post,hope it goes in the right place!! ive decided to fish a new lake and have been told about poppy hills near henlow. its owned by letchworth angling club. does anybody know anything about it apart from what the web site says. any reviews,tips or bad points.want to join a club with the chance of a 30, pb is 21lb 8oz and has been for years. i dont mind travelling but with a new baby doing long sessions is out the question for this year so a lake or lakes with some big uns and not to hard that it needs more than 2 days to be in with a chance of a fish thank you slatts

AS IN WESTONS LAKE NEAR PETERBOROUGH IN PEAKIRK??? I FOUND SOME INFO ON A PLACE CALLED CARPSPACE.CO.UK. I GOOGLED WESTONS LAKE. THERE IS A MENTION ON GOFISH I THINK BUT NO DETAILS

no i wasnt down there that early.ive heard stanborough is frozen aswell. the wife got me a new bivvy for xmas and a new bedchair and porter is on the way next month so really looking forward to getting to the lake again.

yes there is a gravel bar but its not as big as everybody thinks but its there,there is a couple of features there,islands,gravel bar and shelves water levels have been up and down recently
