Need a bit of advice on hook to bait size.

I'm fishing a french lake on the 30th, the owner says everyones moving upto size 4 hooks , because there all getting loads of hook pulls on 8-12s..

 

I normally fish size 8 wide gapes with a 14mm by 18mm dumbell and fish quite well....tight to snags. e.g reeds,trees ect

 

Do you think its just the way there fishing and I should fish my norm , or shall i fish there way n fish 4s to 6s.

 

its a small lake with carp upto 54.clay bottom.

 

please someone give there opinion because i cant see how a size 4 with a smallish hookbait would act right.

I can only offer a suggestion, i.e. why not try one rod with a size 4 hook, maybe with the size of hookbait that the owner also recommends, and your other rods with the rigs you are confident with, and see which works out best? Then take it from there. One of them may be better, or maybe not?
