just started using the zig rig but have had pop up boilies now wanna try out the zig rig foam whats the best option on having these on the hook? does any one have any diagrams of how its presented so i can get a rough idea thank you

Simple, use a small cylinder of zig foam (i Use the Gardner stuff) of around 5-10mm in length and just hair rig it as normal but use a very short hair so that the foam is touching the bend of the hook.

I also use a small Choddy/Stiff Rigger type of hook in size 10 because it opens the gape of the hook out far better than a standard hook. Tie one up and you will see what i mean

Small pieces of black rig foam trimmed down to the shape of a chum mixer and fished on a short hair, soak it if you like but it works fine on its own. Chod style or straight eyed hooks are better with double strength hooklink .

Have a look at the Korda thinking tackle series 1 DVD to see Terry Hearn’s piece on zig rig fishing, his hair system is great and has improved my zig rig and floater fishing catch rate loads.

as above use the gardner cylinder rig foam is great stuff i caught a couple of weeks ago with three small bits trimmed down black yellow black. (the wasp rig  ) just use on a hair rig setup as you would with your pop up's

also if you are gonna fish zigs don't be afraid to fish them on a couple of rods or all of your rods with differant depths

for example 2ft 3ft 4ft if one works then swap over and go for that lengh

another Korda piece of advice their coutesy of Ali Hamidi thinking tackle three....

i personally always struggled with confidence in the zig with worry of poor bite detection but slowley my confidence has grown over the last few years....and i have some good fish that i would not of had if i wasn't sticking a bait in front of their nose 4ft of the lake bed !!
