dondoncarp Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Hi all there is a fair bit of momentum on facebook "save our speedferry-sos". I know from the loads in summer,at weekends we were packed with carpers...speedferries running across the channel made other operators slash fairs,if the company goes down the pan the inevitable price rises will kick in,speedferries was a thorn in the side of the big operators. Please take a small amount of time to log into facebook, join our cause and support a small but worthwhile business. you`ve got nothing to lose Many thanks Martin speedferries seaman http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=107348775256&ref=mf Quote

The owners had prior knowledge and where trying to get finance from the banks to pay it. TBH I would say it the end and get yourself booked on the ferry, if you book far enough in advance you can get a return trip for about £80 depending on the time of day your prepared to travel Quote
dondoncarp Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=107348775256&ref=mf the boats in boulogne..its a bit more complex than a non payment of port tax bill. The point also is fair you make..you may get another firms crossing for £80 now...what about the future, without a firm like speedferries running as a budget operator not operating anymore,it will be like the old days...the big ferry companys prices all around the same price and sky high Quote
icemaster Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Used to live in Hawkinge and used to use the Cat every now and again for a day trip if I was bored, that going back about 4 years and it used to be about £50 return then, not sure if it was speedferry then or P & O. Anyway good luck. Going back to my original point, if you've booked a place it's unlikely that they will be able to charge you more when you come to travel, unless they use the fuel surcharge card!!! dondoncarp Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 your right...but what about future bookings...the months go quick...what when you decide to book late next year for next summer...ive worked for P&O,Sealink, hoverspeed and townsend...seen similar price hikes before Quote
icemaster Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 TBH when you put the travel section of our trips in to the mix, how many of actually worry about it, lets be honest most of will share a car, van whatever and when we get to the lake probably spend twice as much on bait as it cost to cross the channel. david1951 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Dondoncarp has reported :- "I regret to inform all concerned that speedferries are no more. attended a meeting at 1700hrs today to tell us potential buyers withdrew their offers and the company was in liquidation. We were informed that we are now redundant. They have not updated the website yet but would imagine tomorrow that they`ll tell customers what to do as there next step. sad day". Bet the other ferry companies will be laughing all the way to the bank next year!! Us anglers won't be though! Quote
dondoncarp Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 just to let anyone know who is interested...speedferries went into liquidation this afternoon makeing staff redundant. lets see how prices rise over the next 18months Quote
