steve333 Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 How long would you be confident in using a pre tied rig for before disgarding/replacing the hook or after how many fish do you think the hook is still as effective as a new one? Quote
starbaits Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I allways check my rig and hook before/after I cast and catch. For damge and bluntness/sharpeness. Quote
neilscatchin Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Once because the hook'll never be as sharp even when resharpened,I check mine on every cast to ensure the point hasn't blunted and religously change after every fish. Most rig mechanics rely on the hook taking purchase in the mouth but with a blunt point it'll vastly reduce the effectiveness of the rig and you'll suffer hookpulls. The make up of the bottom'll effect the sharpness especially gravel and believe it or not silt if left overnight for example. Quote
steve333 Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 Pretty much what i thought,i've always used my thumbnail to check hook points for sharpness, thanks for the replys Quote

hopefull Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i give mine the thumbnail-test after each fish, as well as having a good look at the point to see if its turned over or blunted. If so, then change the rig, if not then whack it back out. Quote

salokcinnodrog Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I check the hookpoint (and eye) before I tie the rig, when I put it on the Mainline, when I cast out, when I reel in, and after every fish. In other words there is no point in time that I'm worried about fishing with a blunt hook. Quote
