traffic Posted May 28, 2007 Report Share Posted May 28, 2007 someone suggested to use the hermit rig as an anti eject rig they explained briefly how to tie it but didnt understand.can anyone help.i know it involves using a piece of no 2 pole elastic just above the hook length.any help would be much appreciated. salokcinnodrog Posted May 30, 2007 Report Share Posted May 30, 2007 Any elastic tied above the Hooklink and then attached to the Mainline could well be irresponsible fishing. Elastic has not got the Abrasion resistance of Mono's or Braids. The elastic (or Power Gum) leads to many cases of the Carp snapping it or it chafing on a snag. If you look at the Sticky at the top of the Rig Making section there are a couple of Extending Hooklinks that may well do the same effect Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
traffic Posted June 2, 2007 Author Report Share Posted June 2, 2007 have looked into this since and found that you fold approx 2 inches of your mainline over inside stiff rig tube above your lead so when the fish picks up your bait it feels the no2 elastic then when it bolts it is connected directly to the mainline the idea being that the no2 elastic makes the bait hard to eject once the carp feels the pri ck of the hook.had the same concerns as you but have seen the rig on a dvd called welly wackers.may work. acepestdetective Posted June 10, 2007 Report Share Posted June 10, 2007 The basis of the rig are that you tie a piece of elastic just above the hooklink. There is an inline lead attached to the bottom of a length of John Roberts' stiff tubing (about 6'') through which the tag of the elastic is thread thro. The tag is then trapped in place at the top of the tube by means of a tail rubber. The idea is that when a fish tries to shed the hook using the lead as a pivot the elastic keeps a tight line at all times and even if the elastic snaps which it will sometimes this means no safety issue as the mainline runs straight thro to the hooklink.
