  1. im unsure what you mean by "if the fish picks up the bait and swims away from me the weight of the lead will have no hooking affect at all" as it would be in the silt, so even a light lead will have a bolt effect.
because I like to fish quite slack lines with weightless bobbins and well sunk line if the fish swims away then it will have to take the slack out of the line before the lead will be picked up.
  2. I just started putting together some helicopter rigs, they look good and I can see that with my VERY stiff rigs and supple hairs with the helicopter setup will have magic presentation over the tockenham resi deep silt. But I don't know about hook holds. I now use a relatively slack line so if the fish picks up the bait and swims away from me the weight of the lead will have no hooking affect at all. Will the fish hook themselves fast enough?

    thankyou

ps. whats the difference between a helicopter rig and a chod rig?

  3. Been fishing on the float for carp at Tockenham Resi and find that it is a very exciting way of targeting carp by using a medium balsa float and the lift method with shot or a feeder. I think it is like zig rigs but it is far more active than any other methods as you are constantly holding the rod. I also seem to catch more using 5lb line and a soft carp float rod. Everyone should give it a go, it is probably the most enjoyable carp fishing Ive ever done!!

  4. On my venue everybody seems to be using barbed hooks except me but I don't see the idea! I get that they don't move around as much but surely a micro barb will do (that's what I use). They use big barbs and say that they hold in well. But them, like me, use lead clips which fail to eject the lead on every take so I find that the lead weighs the hook in. So what other advantages are there to using a barb (bearing in mind that hook size is around 8) so why do they do it?

    thankyou

  5. Hi, lately at my venue people have been catching loads of carp on snowman rigs but I am confused at what sized hook to use. There are lots of small common carp on my venue but a few bigguns. The bait will be a 16mm bottom bait and a 10mmm topping pop-up.

    thankyou

  6. I'm using a bait that is small but quite long and ive made a couple of hair rigs up with the bait on there is a bit of a gap between the hook and bait also making the distance from hook point and the bottom of the bait even further. could this long hair lose me bites?
if its a bottom bait/snowman then always use a nice long hair, if its a pop-up then use a short one. When I use a snowman rig of 20mm I use a 40mm hair so a 20mm gap betwen hokk and bait.
  7. Everybody seems to think that boilie rule, but a live and moving bait I catch loads on! I find that I catch heaps of winter carp on maggot rigs with this rig being my new favourite! It was mentioned in total carp, I tried it and it seems to work epicly by taking away the weight of the hook (not that I believe that) and by actualy moving as attraction. Also dont limet yourself to red maggot because white and orange are more visable and are good when mixed. Where is the orrigonality in using an unnatural bait on the hair? Oh and don't use maggots in the spring/summer if your venue had roach/bream/crucians because take the bait all the time. Also if your venue has minnows because they chew the maggots therefore making them useless.

  8. only one slight problem  I don't speak any french :( TYPICAL! 3 languages none of which are french, last time I went to a french tackle shop the owners just looked at me like I was mad  in the end my dad came up with pale' vu ongle'...I kept hoping one would get the english gist and/or speak german!

  9. Right imagine this Nat, big hook in bottom lip, hair with 2nd hook slightly long, during fight 2nd hook catches top lip effectively sealing fishes mouth shut. If fish can't open mouth it dies, simples. Or it's mouth is ripped to shreads

Don't like it never will, no matter which high profile tit says its good

if the hook were loose then yes it would be dangerous but the hook is sealed tight into the stiff corn and it is safe. You need to use a rig tool to pull out the hook! I doubt it would ever come loose in a fish's mouth.
  10. I don't like maggot clips or the use of a second hook, and I'll stick to putting maggots on thread or floss tied onto rig ring or even sew maggots and thread onto a piece of foam or glue them to a cork ball
the second hook cant possably get out. It isnot for hooking the carp. It acts as a maggot clip instead of using a great big clip!
  11. just found an awesome rig to use with maggots which is criticly balanced and works for carp far better than any maggot clip:

use a supple braided hooklink and tie onto one end with a half blood knot a size 14 barbless hook.

now thread a large bit of pop-up corn onto the other end and slide down until it is on the size 14

now knotless knot a size 8 carp hook as if the bit of pop-up was the boilie

then pull the size 14 out of the corn, use a testing tank to see how many maggots you need to make it balanced, to put on the maggots simply hook them onto the size 14 then pull it slick into the corn!

    two tips:

try putting a few fake pop-up maggots in with the real ones to make it sit better

fish it over a PVA bag of maggot and corn

  12. I am just about to buy a set of lead clips and tail rubbers to go with the nash leader. I don't want to be dumping the lead every time only when the lead gets dragged through weed. I want a good quality set. thankyou

  13. after a holiday to southern france I have seen that in the coast there sooo many fish about. As a carp angler I know practicaly nothing about beach casting or what rigs to use or what fish to catch or what bait to use in southern france, all I have is a pair of beachcasters, a barbel rod stand and a pair of beach caster reels loaded with salt water braid. anybody know what they are talking about with sea fishing or with fishing in southern france from the sea, also what fish can be caught...thankyou

  14. Hi all,

I have always been using fairly small, sharp hooks. I like to test my rigs in a tank and set the size of hook to the bait. I use pop-ups and look at my rig from above and set the hook so that if you look at it from above the bait totaly covers the hook. Is this right? I use 10mm betalin popz with a size 10 hook which I give a sharpness polish with a point doctor. When I use botom baits I use the same test.

    thankyou
