  1. I know this topic has been discussed many times before and I also know it some thing we all feel strongly about. Last week I went down earlswood after work to try and get my pal into fishing and he did catch his first carp which was great and I also nabbed a couple aswell so all was happy. But.... When we first pulled up I saw a sign which says members of britsh water ways will be patrolling the lake because of reports of fish being taken/stolen during the night. It even goes on to say they will be filming people which may be a good idea if they don't offend any one. At first I thought great at last they are noticing this is going on which every person in Solihull has done for a few years but it has took this long for them to catch on. When I saw these two people walking around it was clear to see they were NOT anglers and didn't care less. They were more intrested in the ducks. They left well before dark and didnt even come over to us to even ask for our licenses. It is a joke, if they really cared about the fish they would employ real anglers who care about fish and fellow anglers and actually know what and who they are looking for. Please British waterways employ some proper people who can do a good job and stop these criminals ruining our sport. Rant over Rob
  2. I live in yardly wood mate so not far from kh, I havnt ever heard of many decent stretches of canal for carp around here but it will be interesting to know if there is because I'd be straight down there
  3. just came back from Waveney valley marsh lake, very nice place wildlife is great the lads that work there are very nice blokes but had a bad weeks fishing :/ We were in m6 caravan fishing pegs 7 and 8 but me and my old man doubled up in swim 8 but I still cast my lines towards swim 7. First night was very cold we fished until 2 in the morning but retreated to the caravan. Got up early the next morning and fished all day. I fished with a spread of cell boilies and same on my hook with fairly long hook links tied up kd style and tipped with floating corn but still not even a bite. This was the way it was all week. I carried on casting to the opposite bank, even casting a bare lead to the bank then dropping my rig in trying not to spook any fish. I then tried changing my hook baits to bright pop ups to try and attract there attention but still failed. In the end I stopped baiting up and took my lines out of the water in the day and only fished at night and on the last night it payed off with a 29 lb cat, not what I was there to catch but was still a nice bonus and I didn't blank but the old man did which was a shame. To be fair only a handfull of carp came out all week and and all of them came out at night and at the other end of the lake. To any one who's thinking of going here I would suggest to fish the other end of marsh lake and avoid pegs 8 7 and 6 as the fish seem to hold up the other end of the lake both day and night. Best time to fish is deffinately night time. Also use a bait boat u can hire one from them but at 70 quid I thought this was a bit steep so regretably I did not get one. use halibut pellets in large clumps close to opposite bank this scores well for the cats mostly. In my opinion not really a boilie water. I will be deffinately going back but will be fishing yewtree next time as this lake was fishing well all week and looks a much nicer lake. To sum up this place is dominated by bait boats and next time I will be using one Also fish mainly at nite if fishing marsh lake and bait up a lot with pellets. Very nice place but marsh lake is not for me.
  4. Well done mate im really glag u did so well and the cats are a huge bonus, I'm off there early June when its apparently going to be decent weather, just out of intrest do you think you would have had a few more had the weather been decent or do u think It was because they were holding up the other end?
  5. Marsh m6, i think i spoke to about it a couple of months back when i first joined the forum
  6. I'm off their in 6 weeks aswell can't wait, will be interesting to know which Bait is doing the business on their.
  7. I cant really answer your main question but as far as the chod goes u could fish a naked chod ie straight on to the main line.
  8. Yes maybe i have been missing the point all together. Maybe the ' go anywere' rig is a simple knotless knot tweaked for different situations. Moorsey what is the rig u have used for the past 45 years? Rob
  9. Yeh that's what I want to be able to do, have a pretty simple rig I can adjust easily ie length, hair size and so on.
  10. Salokcinnodrog that thread that you attached is very informative and has gave me many things to think about. A simple knotless knot rig is as simple as you can get and I have caught many fish with this basic rig but I started carp fishing to develop as an angler, and sticking to a basic rig all the time is IMO, not making me a better angler. I will continue to use a basic knotless knot rig when in certain situations but I do want to develop my skills. Also I'm not one for following trends and using the latest rig because it is IMO a way of making money from people who have too much money As far as always using a chod rig Emmcee I think this will always be a rig I use but in the right situation. I want a rig I can get a quick bite on as time is limited and a rig I can use many different baits on. Maybe the humble knotless knot is the answer, but maybe this isn't making me a better angler Or is it?
  11. Hiya Recentley I've been doing a lot of research and messing about with a rig I can pretty much take anywhere and cast out in the knowledge that it is going to be well presented in most situations. I do a lot of quick day sessions and time is very limited so getting the lines out quickly is paramount and giving me the best chance of bagging fairley quick . I need a rig I can also present many different types of baits, for example bottom baits, smaller particals and popups depending on the situation. I know there is obviousley exceptions when other rigs will come into play ie chods etc I've came to a conclusion that a kd style rig is some thing that could be the answer. I can use it in conjunction with popups single bottom baits and even smaller particles when critically balanced. Also they are very quick to tie with not many components and I can attach a small pva stick for anti tangle. I can alter the lengths to the desired length which is usually 8 inches as a starting off point If any one has a ' go anywhere rig' that may be a better answer to mine that would be great because ATM I'm not 100 percent on this. Many thanks Rob
