Any advice for a rusty angler
david1982 replied to carpymatt78's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
hi mate, i personally wouldnt go there, its small and overly cramped, its not what i would consider a 'proper' carp lake. I would look at getting on catch 22 just down the road or taswood. -

cheers for the tips both of you. funnily enough i watched a john wilson yesterday where he was on the wensum! i'll have to give it a go -
hello all, i havent river fished for a while (since i was a kid) apart from a bit of spinning. when the season starts again i really fancy river fishing for carp, barbel, chub etc. just wondered if anyone knew of any good rivers for these species that are relatively close to kings lynn? cheers

yes i think you do, i think cork is often what is used for critically balanced baits bit obviously if you overdo it and dont want it standing up too proud you may still need to balance it out with weight. to be honest its only something i've played around with, could really do with someone else's explanation
-
hi ste, critically balanced just means the bait has no weight to it, the idea, i think, is that the carp will be take the bait in easier, where as a pop is very bouyant and will try to float up from the last point of weight on the rig.

the rights and wrongs of rating fisheries..

ha, i know what you mean about the licence, why bother with a law it no-one enforces it anywhere apart from rivers?? i did comment on one fisshery about hearing that some of the stock had been removed, now in hindsight i've got to put my hands up and say that was wrong of me,it was only word of mouth and you know how chinese whispers go.. but yeah if somewhere is poorly run i think we should get the word out. -

hi studley, as i said not catching doesnt make a place bad. a whole multitude of other things can make somewhere undesirable. for instance the place in question i was talking about i didnt even fish! the 3 of us got there after pre-booking well in advance only to find there were only 2 swims available! -
i put this on a thread where people were slagging off/sticking up for a specific lake, but would be interested in peoples opinions on the general topic... slightly hijacking this thread and i know nothing of the fishery in question.... i think it raises a good question about people giving their opinions on fisheries on the internet. i recently got a little bit of grief from one member for giving a non-favouarable write-up on a lake. it made me think for a moment that maybe it wasnt fair, as at the end of the day its someones living and forums like these are pretty anonymous so any tom dick or harry can hammer someones livelyhood (possibly even rival fishery owners )...... but, then i thought, no, i had a bad experience that wasted my time and money as well as that of friends. it wasnt that i just blanked and slated it. so i think if somewhere you've been has genuine problems and you wouldnt go again then you should tell others to hopefully save them making the same mistake. as long as what you write is fair, balanced and backed up with fact, not just ' i spodded all day and night and still blanked'. carp fishing is expensive enough as it is so if we can save each other some money with passing on info on places to avoid, we should. i'd be interested to hear what others think on this?

Carpin around Kings Lynn/West Norfolk
david1982 replied to tancho321's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
i would say very much the same as pearbo, i'm going to get a bradmoor ticket shortly. you've also got taverham mills and tasswood around norwich. if you really want to 'get a bend if your rod' get down to woodlakes or dents, not 'proper' carp lakes but both absolute runs waters very close to kings lynn -
And what I meant to say on my original post was there were 2 swims and 3 of us, after we'd booked well in advance..that was the killer
-
I don't want to slate the place and it was a while ago but I can only tell it as I found it.no point saying it was brilliant when that wasn't what happened.if you look at the few places I've commented on you will see I don't put places down for the sake of it

not sure of the distances either but in my opinion bluebell is only worth fishing if you have at least 3 days upwards to have a go at it

hello, i last fished a couple of nights on it about 6 months ago, we fished the lake at the back, think its called the match lake. i had nothing but bream and my mate had a grass carp, i never heard that there are any carfish in there to be honest. i heard a lot opf the fish had been put in there wisbech lake, not sure if its true but it felt like last time i was there!
-
that link is really helpful salok, thats been favourited
-
hello frosty, i've asked pretty much exactly the same thing myself. if your willing to go a little further then bluebell lakes in tansor, northamptonshire is well wortha look
-
er, yeah, i knew that i'll investigate, having the whole lake sound ideal
-
all good info, much appreciated. sounds pricey hammer, £125 per 24hrs! having said that the amount i've spent on fishing holes in the ground it might not be that bad of a deal.. somewhere relatively quiet with a lot of water to go at is important, as your in a similiar neck of the woods salok i'm sure you find the same frustrations of turning up to a much looked forward to session to find the lake jam packed, i cant even think where's going to be worth trying in the bank holidays coming up cus they'll all be so busy and the tickets arent available yet for the club i'm going to fish this year
-
small price to pay . i'm liking the look of waveney...
-
very true, good amount of options, thanks for the input hammer. all we want is a beatiful quiet lake with guaranteed 30lb + every cast
