i told my mate we should go to wadmill as i have had fish to 15lb from it and about 6 in a day average, but he was having none of it when i told him there was a 34lber in Big hayes ! i think we might be able to move over there if we arent catching on big hayes!

hi there, i did have a search but couldnt find what i wanted ! i am taking a mate here next week, and really want to get him to catch something! i have fished twice during the winter and had 2 dropped fish , but that was it and while i was there i was having serious problems with the weed! i asl o dont think i had the right bait, tactics etc- basically i think i am fishing wrongly ! how should i be fishing it? i was thinking of changing to flourocarbon leaders with with solid bags, or little baits like fake sweetcorn with small hooks and just casting around till i find the fish? cheers !

cheers for the reply mate, a bit late now ! ended up going to Funtley todat, wat a let down! confident to start with and then as nothing happened for longer and longer, then when i started talking to a regular and he told me that it was almost cetain i wasnt going to catch anything as it is a hard water it was even worse!

my sister is dragging me to a guinea pig show near fareham. however my mum is being very nice and saying that me and my dad can stay for a little bit then go fishing near fareham! i was just wondering if anyone knew any good places, on a day ticket where we would get a bend in the rod? i looked on the portsmouth angling website and they have some but wasnt sure if i could get day tickets for them? cheers!

i have used it twice recently firstly with a little PVA bag covering the hook and then cast this into the the weed on the lake, got 1 run but unfortunately lost the fish. the second time i had turned up to the lake at night and didnt know where it was clear, i actually found i had cast it into thick weed but actually landed a load of bream from the week. i used it with a short rig so the fish doesnt have ages before it hits the bead. hope this helps!

great peice of advice mate! the sandhurst love to show themselves and if you just have a wander and find them, you'll probably catch! and definitely dont neglect the margins, egdes of the island is where Nigel's fish and Freindly linear come out alot- both near 40lb's!

http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=26148&highlight=sandhurst; have a look at that ! my main bit of advice would be watch the weather! if there is a strong wind then follow it, if it is really cold make sure you have small baits and go for a scratching tactic. also i have found that it is best to only spod a little bit and if it is not fishing well, putting some spod out will also start the lake again sometimes! hoep this helps!

i belong to ringwood and district anglers club which costs £50 per year for juniors and £130 a year for adults which is kind of expensive but thats 13 sessions on a £10 day ticket. its a good club and has access to lots of good waters containing lots of decent sized carp! hope this helps !

i also jsut found this thread as well; http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=35998&highlight=braid if you use the search facility it can come up with lots of good threads that are really helpful !

i am by no means an expert on the chod rig ! it is basically a length of leadcore with the lead tied to the end of leader say with a quick change clip or a small length of 3lb line. then you slide a bead onto the leader which a swivel would be able to pass over with a bit of pressure. then slide on the hooklength swivel which should have a bigger eye to slide over the leadcore and the beads. then slide on another bead. set the beads so they sink into the depth of the silt, say if the silt was 2 feet deep you would have the top bead 1.5 feet up and the 2nd 2.5 ft up so they hold the hooklength up in silt and make sure it doesnt sink! http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=36456 that should help as well

the best rig would probably be a relatively long (8-10 inches) made of supple matterial like soft braid. a lead-clip set up probably be best as this should help to keep the rig out of the silt and the lead plugging improves the bolt-rig effect! make sure you attach some sort of PVA to keep the hookpoint from catching on things in the silt. another rig would be the chod-rig which is designed to be fished in silt! hope this helps!

i always use eyed hooks as i cant tie the hooks for spade hooks ! also i dont trust the knots for them as they seem to come undone on things i use with them on them, like pretied pole rigs etc.
-
it is best to put into boiling water so there is less chance of burning your fingers and also you wont damage the hooklink as much apparently, but i dont get how the steam damages it! hope this helps!
-
i think that is a very closely guarded secret, but they smell like some other red boilies i brought about a year ago i had a look at their website and the catfish seem to like livebaited rudd, aso that would be a good idea if you targetted them! hope this helps!
-
yeah i know, , but i tried one of the ESP size 8's and it didnt make the click when the lead clip was pulled into it so it could run free on the line meaning it wasnt a safe set-up
-
if you are using a korda lead clip- use the korda size 8 swivels as these are the ones they are designed for and they fit absoulutely perfectly!
-
i agree with nash_gadgeteer in that the guys at todber are very helpful, as for carp bait you should definitely use the red factor they sell in the shop as the fish are fed on this and recognise it as food. hope this helps!
-
£10 a kilo, but they are worth it as they really catch more than other baits, dont use too many as loose feed, just use sweetcorn and pellet.
-
definitely get some of the red factors as they are the banker bait there, fish them with a couple of handfuls of pellet or sweetcorn, and defo tip with fake sweetcorn.
-
as long as the mat is big and padded, and yours sounds fine. i use a huge berkley one that sounds like yours and they are fine with that!

thanks very much for the info- appreciated
