the other thing you can do in supple braid is to make a boom out if the braid. use a large loop at the end of your rig and this should stop the hook landing right next to the lead a bit better tight lines

is it a cork plug that you drill 3/4 of the way trough and the have the end sticking out the end if the bait. The rig ring would be on the hook because it would the sit up like a wafter as the bait would be naturally balaced.????
