I use heavy bobbins and have a 2-3 inch drop on them in the day, you will see bites quicker this way than on a tight line in my opinion. At night I do the same, but usually at least 6 foot off the snag, the fish should gain confidence as darkness falls and come out of the snags. Always have your clutch tight and dont use your baitrunner at all! Also, when you hook one, get ready, it can be proper nerve wracking at times!
-
At night I would move the rod further away from the snags TBH, the fish are more likely to venture further out of the snag under the cover of darkeness, I dont really think there is a safe way of fishing sideways onto snags when your fast asleep, you need your whits about you, the 5 secs it take for you to wake up and hit the rod the fish could easily of buried its self deep in them
-
I have never really done much fishing where my rig is next to snags, only where they are on the far bank and I am casting to them, so I have no experience in that department! I could imagine I would use a totally different set up in that position, lead clip to drop the lead, tight lines with the rod paralell to the snags and basically quiver tip, wait for the tip to wack round, strike and hold on!

I have never had a problem with snags and running leads, in the day I have the rods locked up, pointing at my rigs witha 2-3" drop on the bobbins. As soon as a fish picks my rig up, I know about it in that cuircumstance as the semi-slack line combined with a running rig tells my instantly, I have tried tight lines and lead clips to snags but I dont get on with it as I feel the indication is poor with this set up. Although Imust add I use size 6 barbed drennaen barbel hooks, 15lb mainline, 3.5lb rods and bigpits for snag fishing, so I can really apply pressure if the fish is heading directly for the snag.

sure is mate

You dont want a bag on a choddy mate, just fish it over a scattering of boilies. I wouldn't think it would be the best rig for a beginner though, I would just stick to a running lead, have caught all my fish this year on that set-up
-
90% of my fish this year have been on fake corn, I have only had a few carp though, a lot of tench and bream
-
dont annoy the mods!! espcially courtz!!!
-
Hi mate, where you thinking of fishing? In terms of tactics, my basic theory is keep kit to a minumum, rigs as simple as possible and move onto fish, stick with these and you will catch mate
-
not something i would try really, prefer to keep it simple with rigs, bait etc could hammer somewhere like drayton res though i should imagine

-
i have always thought this only applied to Lonshank Nailer hooks or what ever they are called
-
WOOOHOOOO went into the "match tackle" shop today and they have restocked everything!! They even got the hooks in I asked for!!!
-
Dan, I do know what my own brother is doing you know, I do not need you to tell me Websters is not the shop I am going, that is the shop that is understocked, they sell hardly anything in there
-
Hi mate, I am using fake corn, the hooks and the weight of the link just about sink the bait, so i would of thought the carp will have taken it right back due to how light the bait is? Also, i am just using small pva bags on the hook for feed, any amount of bait in this lake kills it in my opinion, too much disturbance. Like the Korda dig as well

I go school 5 days a week, the shop shuts at 5 30, so I cant go then, I work on saturdays untill 5 30, so I cannot get to the shop whilst its open. I would order some, but my parents wont let me use their debit cards all the time. Also no realtives live anywhere near the shop, they are further away than me! There is also no public transport to the shop. If I could possibly get there, I would! The shop wont order any hooks in as they rarley do orders from drennan/esp, as there is little demand for the products in the shop this is due to it being leaned towards match/pleasure fishing, most carp anglers around here have to travel (by car) to a different tackleshop. On another note, i never had any hookpulls whilst using the ESP curve shank hooks in size 10, it just seemed to be the raptors
-
I would if it was safe, its either along the A45 or through a nice secluded path through the middle of a nature reserve lots of trees either side of the path and lots of unsavoury characters!!!
-
I have had a few hook pulls when using size 10 esp raptors, I never had any with size 9 drennan barbel hooks. All the fish I have caught this year have been very lightly hooked, although I think this may be to do with the running rigs? Also this year i have recently brought some shimano navis', before I was using 6000 bait runners. Could this cause hook pulls? The only thing is, my local shop doesn't really have much choice in hooks, would like to use the barbel hooks again, but have to travel about 4 miles to get them and not having a mode of transport (except a bike!) it's not really possible.

I use the Gardner Q-rings, quality bits of kit, easy to use and turn a normal swivel into a ring-swivel, also due to the shape of the clip you don't have to use a peice of rubber to keep the rig on.

http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=28039 Have a look through that mate, I personally will not use any korda product as they seem to have a lot of mishaps and bad batches
-
Quite possibly the stupidest rig ever: This rig was found trailing from a fishes mouth, the lake is a barbless only venue and the rules clearly state "No Fixed Leads", but wether they state this or not, this rig is totally unacceptable
-
So how do you use them?
-
There you go, the lead will be attached to the main line, the hooklength and possibly a fish as it will be unable to slide off the line as there is a shot in the way
-
This thread is about running leads and flying backleads, not leadclips.
