DubVader replied to DubVader's topic in UK Carp Fishing
Absolutely fantastic way to spend a day, when I float fish I find myself looking at the scenery and wildlife and missing bites though haha -

I dont fish with any vintage gear but I do something similar when I'm beating myself up when not catching many carp or just little ones, I will go out with just a single light rod small reel and a tub of maggots and go for roach and perch and just enjoy being beside a nice little water or a river and enjoy just catching what comes along -

what rods did you opt for? I've been debating upgrading my current 12 footers but have been loving the 10fts as I'm on smaller waters -

not that far really, the majority of the time on the current water is about 50-60 yards at the most extreme and around 40 for the majority of the casts I need to make. I'm not too bad on distance when casting just getting the [censored] where I want it always seems to land to the right of my spot and then I adjust and end up going left or landing on the blooming island lol -

Will have to pick one up and give it a go as I said my accuracy is all over the place and I'm currently fishing a shallow lake so the spread from the dot spod is barely anything especially as I'm on an all out boilie approach until the water get cold -

I saw the airbomb and thought it looked interesting, I'm fairly new to spodding and was recommended the dot spod by nash for accuracy and I'm still not brilliant at getting it where I want, do you think the airbomb would be a better option even though I'm not that accurate with casting? -

The solar pod was something I really wanted, I went with the pod made by Defiant MPS and never really use it. Single bank sticks are the one for me personally, solar gear is expensive but what I do have of theirs has always been top notch quality. Recently saw a set of solar bobbins on ebay for 350 quid though and just couldn't understand why the price was so high -

I dont really use bait screws much myself, have a fair few of them but always seem to reach for the micro swivels and bait floss for some reason -
as per title what is the best bit of tackle you have ever bought, something that changed up the way you fish or just something that's a dream to use? for me its the Solar Bow-Loc net, never saw the need for such an expensive net but got one second hand and its so much better for landing fish on my lonesome

I've used vialin to very good success for smaller carp between 5-15lb for a cheap bulk bait many times and always darken it a bit, my dogs love it I mix it into their meals and catch my boxer burying his head into the bag when I leave it out but then again my boxer will eat anything that goes. He got into a bag of squid and octopus fishmeal boilies once and my god the farts were awful. That [censored]ed me off more than losing a chunk of my bait.

Shimano TX4 3.25 OR Greys Prodigy GT4 Rod 50mm 3.25?
DubVader replied to RJT74's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I have a set of GT4 3lb 10fts and love them, never had any real big fish on them, 19lb being the biggest so far with them and I'm no means an expert but they feel great and I thought they were worth the money -
Have been thinking of doing a few day sessions over Crowsheath soon and a few 24 hour sessions when time allows, I have fished it for pike during the winter but never targeted the carp but I cant find any up to date info on it and a mate who fishes a little pond near me told me its got newish owners and the bigger carp have either been taken out or died and the stock is now mostly low doubles? I plan on fishing over a scattering of fishmeal boilies with a solid PVA bag on one rod with krill pellet and a dark dumbell wafter and a matching bottom bait towards the middle of the lake and maybe a ronnie rig over a few handfuls worth hemp and maize in the margin and also taking along some zig bits just in case. Any help will be a huge help as I'm still new to targeting larger fish. Thanks everyone

Thats all I could find as well, was just wondering if its able to be fished let's say under the cover of darkness haha and if there are any decent fish to be had out of there

Hello everyone, I was looking for stretches of the Chelmer to fish on google earth and came across the gravel pit at Heybridge does anyone have any information on it? can it be fished and if so is it a syndicate water ect. also any information of good spots to fish on the Chelmer was planning to just walk along the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation to see if there are any signs of carp if not go for some perch with a drop shot Thanks in advance for any information

I was thinking of giving the maggots a go tied to a slice of cork as I've had some pretty good success on another lake fishing maggot clips and a big bunch of maggots tied up to the hook using a mini swivel (medusa rig?) The only thing that is making me think twice about that method is the huge number of silvers I've seen in the lake I'm going to next. do you think a larger size hook and a bigger bunch of maggots will keep the silvers for pestering me too much? Thanks for the reply

Cheers mate, will definitely give the adjustable zigs a go seems a bit better than having to tie up new ones when I fancy changing the depth, I've watched a few vids on zigs and it was always the netting portion I couldn't wrap my head around but fishing a drop off makes a lot of sense I dont usually go for heavy leads but I do have a few 3.5oz pears kicking about I think so I'll give those a go.

Hello everyone, was hoping for some advice on zig rigs. I'm going to be fishing a hard lake soon that I have only ever caught off the top from but they have recently banned surface fishing so was planning to give a zig a go. I know the basics of zigs on how to tie them and to find the depth of the swim and start at 2/3rd depth and then adjust from there. Was just wondering what colours of foam should I try? I was going to go with black as its been bright and very hot out, should I loose feed hemp over the top of the zig or would that just get the birds to bother me? the other thing is that there is a part of the lake that is around 12ft deep, if i fish a 10 foot zig how hard is it to net the fish once its hooked? (if i nab a fish at all) one last thing would be the lead set up, should i go with a heavy lead or a lighter one using a lead clip or an inline with a ring swivel or a normal swivel? I would appreciate any and all advice with zig fishing as I have never fished with them before thanks all

Hello everyone, was hoping for some advice from more seasoned fisherman then my self. I'm looking to get some new rods as i broke one of my old ones so thought that was a good enough excuse to get some new ones in. I've been using 12ft 3.5tc and was thinking of getting some 10ft 3lb ones instead is there any real draw backs with using 10ft vs 12s? I don't fish at any real distances. I would say 100 yards is by far the furthest I fish so casting distance shouldn't be an issue. So far I've narrowed the choice down to these Avid traction Sonik Dominator x Greys prodigy GT4 Daiwa crosscast If anyone can recommend any better rods or any info will be a great help. Hoping to spend around the £150 mark for 2 rods and I don't mind buying some 2nd hand rods if they are a better quality
