I got some Gardner Bugs in medium which are about the same size as the larger Korda Black and Whites.

Inexpensive and do the job and after reading what Yonny says I'm glad I didn't fork out for the Korda ones.

These seem ok, are they the maxi ones? The "mega" look a bit stumpier than your image and the other two sizes mini and micro look too slim.

I have two of these already actually but because I have a fox stalker pod if I want the whole set up sat low to the ground the middle rod can't have one of these swingers on unless it just sits on the main bar of the pod

  3. Hi all,

Thinking ahead for Christmas presents to myself and looking at some bobbins.

The korda ones seem expensive but after using some jrc ones I got with my bite alarms on a breezy night I feel I'd need something weighty.

Does anyone have the korda ones and what size do you have? Or any recommendations for something that can be used for all weathers?

    Thanks

  4. I have to admit the reels on my actual fishing rods are all diawa. I've had them for years, through rain dirt etc they've been totally fine. The funny part is they were only around £50 brand new so when I kitted myself out with a third rod I found a matching reel second hand for about £25. I do have a lot of confidence in the build quality even on the cheap ones. They are diawa regal z baitrunners.

Interesting to know, I've got a couple in mind now thinking diawa emblem or Shimano 10000 xtb. I think my major influences are now going to be more on recommendation and price rather than clip style etc as I've quickly learnt that it doesnt matter haha

Could anyone recommend one over the other? The diawa are so much more expensive but I seem drawn to them for some reason.

  6. I use 2.5oz at the moment. My rods are 2.75lb and I find this to be heavy enough for use on these rods especially if I'm ever fishing solid bags too. Anything heavier seems cumbersome to cast. I once read something about ideal casting weights for a rods TC and that's why I settled on this weight. Add to this it's heavy enough to be roughly in the range of what most people use on lead clips and that was enough evidence for me to feel confident using them.

  7. Thanks for all the advice, I fished Clearwater Fishery in carnforth during the week and although I don't have all the spomb and marker gear yet I did brave using the line clips and measuring wraps on distance sticks for the first time ever. Needless to say I will never look back, it's so easy and reliable and hitting the clip on a cast is so much less risky than I ever believed it would be!!

  8. Thank god I'm not the only one haha. Thankfully a few of the waters I wanna fish this year seem to be very reasonable and well run but I checked out a few new potentials last night and couldn't believe what I was reading! Safe to say I won't bother with those places!

  9. Just an afterthought...

No pellets or fishery own pellets only

No particles or fishery own particles only

I appreciate particles can be prepared incorrectly and pellets have a huge varience in oil levels but I feel both these things can be used as a money making opportunity, as fishing and buying bait doesn't cost us enough anyway.

  10. I feel I'm at risk of being slated for posting this but I'm really interested to see if others have the same views as me. Now before anyone gets the wrong impression of me I totally always respect all fishery rules, I just sometimes question the logic of the rules some fisheries choose.

    Examples;

Limit of 1 pint of maggots per session, winter season only (this was on an 8 acre lake)

    No zig rigs

    No shelf life boilies

No pellets (but yet the fishery will grow their own fish on pellets only and feed them into the lake in winter)

I just can't really understand why these things would be banned. This isn't an infinite list by the way...what ridiculous rules have you come across in your area?

Personally I just want to enjoy my fishing, respect the venue, wildlife and fish but at least have the simple freedom of bait choice and rig choice.
