Driving In France

As many of you will be setting off to France just thought I would post some important info.

You must have High Viz Vests 1 for every passenger and they must be inside the vehicle where you can get at them not tucked away (hang over seats so they can be seen is a good idea).

You must carry a Red Warning Triangle.

(On the spot heavy fines if you don’t comply with the above, about 90 euro for each offence).

Docs to carry.

Driving licence

Vehicle Registration doc

Hire doc (if any)

Insurance doc

If you fully comp cover for the UK then it also covers you for the EU HOWEVER check it covers you fully comp most are just 3rd party.

If you have borrowed the vehicle then a letter from the owner stating he has given you permission to use and drive the vehicle

Break Down cover unless you speak very good French.

Most Sat Navs work well in France but many don’t so print off your route and know the major towns you are heading for.

Toll Roads

Remember to carry coins or a credit card for the un maned pay booths, they don’t take debit cards.

Speed on Motorways is 130k and 110k when wet. Unwritten rule wet is when you have to use wipers.

Driving penalties are much higher in France and if you are stopped DON’T be rude and come over cocky, a sure way of getting booked, French police wont take it so be polite,
