matt2008
Hi guys, Am off to castle lakes 1 in may - anyone else heading out there this year?? I've not fished the lake before, so it will be a bit of an experience! I hear a few of the smaller fish have been removed during the winter - anyone got any ideas on how this will affect the fishing? Thanks for any help
soccerbestykqpo
we fished it last august and it was a rip off.the lake and facilities are excellent.we were not told it was riddled with poisson chat so all our expensive boilies were useless it was also full of small carp ,our average was about 10-15lb out of 300 fish (there was 8 in party).there was no other people on any of the lakes so this seemed a little odd.the bailiff said it was to be drained at end of year great for us! you cant use bait boats but you can HIRE a rowiing boat of them.take a couple of the jumbo tiger nuts sacks(25kgs) and ask hte bailiff to prepare them for you and fish those they love them .if they have removed all small fish and the chat it should be ok.good luck
ralphj
Hi Matt, was interested in this lake a year or so ago, contacted the guy about the place and the average size of the fish. He gave me a load of bull about the average size, reading reports on other forums about what had been caught it was clear that the average by what had been caught was about 15lb not the 30lb odd he had told me. Since then I've not bothered with reports of Poisson chat being rife until things change I decided to look elsewhere.
soccerbestykqpo
we booked with CCFH so whose responsability is it to make sure you get what is described in the brochure.the ironic thing is they advertise pest control and the last thing we expected was their own lake infested they also sell carp enough said!i think there is a video on u tube of lake being drained but the big fish must have slipped the net.we had 3x30s out of 300 fish so make your own conclusions.sorry if it seems doom n gloom but honesty is best policy.try mirrorpool fisheries next year
matt2008
Hi guys, Thanks for all the info - well, a mate and I went and were pleasantly surprised. We fished swim 17 and had around 60 fish between the two of us - smallest was 15lb and the biggest was 38lb+. I'm pleased to say we had no problems with the poisson chat. In fact we didn't catch any, unlike those on the smaller lake who had loads! They drained the main lake down over the winter and got rid of most of the annoying chats and majority of the small carp (less than 20lb), so things seem to have improved. The facilities were second to none and even though the fish were spawning, we still managed to catch consistently - 23/24lb being the average size for us. The top rod had 100+ fish, 12 or so thirties, two forties and a fifty. I managed 5 thirties, most of these being mid thirties, so all in all a pleasant trip, even though the fish had other things on their mind. The lake surroundings are fantastic, Ron the baliff and his wife very welcoming - you're left to get on with it and enjoy your fishing, unlike other french venues I've been to! My friend is looking to go back next year, it's just a shame the ticket is so expensive, although I hear there may be a few offers coming up in the near future so watch this space. Hope this info helps. If you're looking to go, please feel free to get in contact me for more info. Tight lines!
